00:00As the smoke clears in the Pacific Palisades community in Los Angeles, the extent of the
00:09damage is emerging. Whole neighborhoods reduced to ash. At least 10 people have been killed
00:15and 200,000 ordered to evacuate. Aerial footage from local news shows people scrambling to
00:22leave their homes.
00:24Look at all the palm trees in this neighborhood. Look at all of the landscaping. Look at people
00:29already trying to get in their cars and getting out of Dodge. It is time to get your essentials
00:34and get out now. Grab your pets. Get out now.
00:40And the fires, spurred on by wind speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour, show no signs
00:46of stopping. The two largest fires in the region are still burning out of control. As
00:51of Thursday local time, the largest fire, known as the Palisades Fire, was only 6% contained.
00:58The second largest, known as the Eaton Fire, near the city of Pasadena, was 0% contained.
01:04While the total number of buildings destroyed is still unknown, officials say that in the
01:08Eaton Fire alone, it's in the thousands.
01:15We now have a confirmation that we have a potential for over 4 to 5,000 structures damaged
01:25or destroyed.
01:27Some people have returned to their burned-down homes to see if any of their possessions remain.
01:31Many have likened the scenes to that of a war zone. That includes people who have experienced
01:37battlefields.
01:38Like two, three days ago, it was beautiful. It was nice. But today, it's something, you
01:44know, all smoky. It's all burned out. And you could see all the burned cars, and you
01:50see, like, there's no houses and stuff like that. It reminds me back to, like, Afghanistan.
02:01As people to continue to evacuate their homes, U.S. President Joe Biden and California Governor
02:07Gavin Newsom have committed to give all available resources to combat the fires. But with firefighters
02:13struggling to contain the flames, many are asking the same question.
02:18When will it stop?
