00:00On the eve of National Atarjeevan, on the eve of Prabhasiv Bhartiya Divas, we had a very
00:19special guest from Jamaica, Suled Crocs.
00:24She is a social leader from Jamaica.
00:28So let us talk to him, he is a panelist here also, having a discussion on women empowerment.
00:35Women empowerment, the area of women empowerment is growing across the globe.
00:42I think that what we've seen over the past few decades is a change, and as you said,
00:50it's happening all over the world.
00:52Women are really finding their voices, women are finding their places outside of the traditional
01:00structures that we've always had, and that can only mean good things for the globe.
01:06Because women are natural nurturers, and we are natural persons that look out for the
01:12community.
01:13And so by empowering women, and a lot of people think that empowering women means that we're
01:19saying that they should come out of their homes and come out of their traditional roles,
01:23but that's not the case.
01:25Empowerment of women means giving them the confidence and the freedom to do what needs
01:31to be done, whether or not that's training for their children at home, whether or not
01:36that's their role as a farmer, whether or not that's a role as a rocket science.
01:41We had the rocket woman on the stage with us.
01:44It's about empowering women so that they can realize their potential and make the greatest
01:50contribution to their individual countries and to the globe.
01:54How do you find Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Odisha?
02:00I absolutely am loving it, this is my first time to India, and so it has been amazing
02:06to be introduced to India through Bhubaneswar and Odisha, and I've been able to see some
02:12of it, gone to the museum and seen a lot of the history, and there's a lot of rich
02:17history here.
02:18It's a state that's on the sea, so that's akin to me coming from an island country,
02:23and so I really want to thank the government of Odisha, they've been very supportive of
02:29me personally because I have someone that is making sure that I see everything that
02:34the country, the province has to offer, and so I want to say congratulations to the government
02:39of Odisha for pulling off what has been an extremely, extremely successful event.
02:45Indian culture is a rishi sanskriti, saints culture, right?
02:49So what about the hospitality you had here in Bhubaneswar?
02:53And that's a part of what I'm saying.
02:54So the government of Odisha really worked with each of the individual speakers and made
03:00sure that our experience of Odisha was the most it could be, and I think that should
03:06be commended.
03:07You had a session today morning in, you had a session, a plenary session is there, you
03:12had a discussion there, you participated in a session, right, regarding women empowerment,
03:18in the morning here in the, what was it about it?
03:21Well the discussion that we had, we had eight women from eight different countries, members
03:25of the diaspora, some of them born in those countries, some of them migrated from India
03:29into those countries, and it's really just talking about what their experiences have
03:33been and how they've supported Indian women in those countries.
03:37And most importantly, talking about recommendations as to how the government and women can empower
03:43themselves going forward.
03:44It's an important discussion, and I'm very happy that the discussion has started, and
03:50I'm looking forward to see what the outcomes will be.
03:53You are an NRI, right?
03:55You had a relation with India, your parenter has a relation with India.
04:00My grandparents came to Jamaica from India in 1917 from Uttar Pradesh.
04:05Okay.
04:06So what will be your contribution ahead as you are here in the NRI function?
04:11What will be your?
04:12I think, I think professionally there is so much that can be done between Jamaica and
04:17India, and I'm looking forward to building, building business bridges between the two
04:22countries.
04:23And personally, I think there is so much potential for what can be done, and I'm looking forward
04:27to working with the High Commission of India in Jamaica, as well as our High Commission
04:33of Jamaica that's stationed in Delhi to see what that looks like in the future.
04:39But it's an exciting time for Jamaica-India relations.
04:43What is your view regarding the women empowerment, women empowerment?
04:48So I think I spoke about that earlier in terms of the recommendations that we have to look
04:53at in giving women freedom in terms of independence, economic independence, financial independence.
