00:00In the distance, the protection against the threats of cyber attacks by the government continues to be updated and the DICT procures new systems.
00:10This is followed by hacking attempts.
00:13Joshua Garcia is in the center of the news.
00:17There is no evidence of hacking or taking important and sensitive information from the government's data.
00:24This is confirmed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology in the hacking attempts that are highly suspicious.
00:31But the question is, how many people are trying to infiltrate the country's cyber security?
00:37To give context, in one day, it ranges from a few hundred thousand to a million attempts per day that our country is accepting.
00:45When it comes to hacking and infiltrating our systems, not only in the government but also in the private sector.
00:53According to DICT Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Renato Paraiso,
00:57some of the reasons or motives of the alleged hacking attempts are money, increasing the hacking skill level, and espionage.
01:04We have to remember here in Southeast Asia alone, it's a trillion dollar industry, scamming and hacking.
01:11The agency also confirmed that since last year, China has been involved in the countries of the many threat actors who are making hacking attempts.
01:20That's why the agency is continuously updating, along with the procurement of new systems,
01:25to further strengthen the layer of protection against cyber attacks.
01:30This collaboration is also being carried out with other government agencies.
01:33We are asking the various government agencies to visit DICT when it comes to your procurement,
01:40especially your cyber security systems.
01:44DICT will have a meeting. If you are doing the right procurement, it addresses the particular challenges you're trying to address in procuring those systems.
01:55For us to be sure, it's up to global standards, what are the existing threats, we will address them.
02:00Information dissemination, such as the information campaign of DICT, is also being promoted to increase the public's awareness of the importance of cyber security in the country.
02:11Joshua Garcia for Pamansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
