01:54come away from Mauritius
01:56what's the significance of this event
01:58As you know, we have a longstanding relation with India, and in fact for many people, India
02:07is considered, Mauritius is considered as a small India, but we are multicultural, multilingual
02:15and multi-religious.
02:17So for me as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and International
02:24Trade, it is an honor for me to be here.
02:27And in fact I will be intervening tomorrow on sustainable development and climate change.
02:35And I know fully well that India has an edge in terms of technology, so we are relying
02:41a lot on India to help Mauritius, but not only Mauritius, as you know, for us in Mauritius
02:47we are a hub for Africa.
02:50So I'm sure this BBD is not only a cultural event.
02:58Of course we follow closely all the cultures we have inherited from India, and in a way
03:10we follow more than you Indian people, in terms of all the different sections of the
03:19Indian diaspora, whether from the south, from the north.
03:23But at the same time, you know, it's not only culture.
03:26We are here to consolidate our link on the economic side, and also on the trade side.
03:35So we are expecting a lot in terms of culture.
03:38In fact, my colleague, the Minister of Arts and Culture is here.
03:41He will be focusing on culture, music, and all these matters, whereas me, we are meeting
03:49also your Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is a great person, and we are also meeting
03:57the Minister of Sports and a number of other ministers.
04:00And following my meeting here, I will be going down to Chennai for a forum on business and
04:07investment and tourism.
04:09So Mauritius, we are benefiting a lot from the help of India.
04:16So we want to consolidate the link, and I'm sure that this BBD meeting, regular meeting
04:25every year, is not only a regular event, but I'm sure it will bring a lot to both countries,
04:36Mauritius and India.
04:39And at the same time, it is an opportunity to meet people.
04:44As you know, we've got more than 58 million people of Indian origin, scattered throughout
04:50the world.
04:51So it's a golden opportunity for all these people to meet here and to exchange and collaborate,
04:57because as you know, Mauritius, we are...
