Tottenham Hotspur: Do Tottenham have what it takes over two-legs against Liverpool?
Transcript
00:00And that brings me neatly onto that, because that is, of course, Spurs' next game.
00:03Newcastle, your previous opponents, have also got their semi-final on Tuesday night.
00:07They're away against Arsenal, so they're staying in north London.
00:10As are Spurs, of course, they are at home to Liverpool.
00:15Now, to be fair, when that draw happened towards the back end of December,
00:19I think there was probably a lot of groans because, let's be honest, Liverpool were flying
00:23and they went on to beat Spurs 6-3 at White Hart Lane
00:27just a couple of weeks later in the Premier League.
00:29But Spurs, as we mentioned with that performance,
00:33have shown a bit of impetus and a bit of positivity.
00:37And Liverpool themselves had a disappointing performance against Manchester United
00:42in the Premier League, a 2-2 draw against a, let's be honest,
00:45very average Manchester United side, who they let impose themselves at Anfield.
00:50And so there is encouragement there for Spurs.
00:53And what is an important game in terms of the context of Spurs' season?
00:58Yeah, it's just a shame for me that the second leg isn't at home, I think,
01:02because I think Wednesday night is all about hanging in there, really,
01:06and having a game to play for at Anfield when we go back there in February.
01:10We're missing Sar, we're missing Madison and obviously all the injured players
01:14that we know about. How some of the others are going to recover after the weekend
01:18and the bout of illness remains to be seen.
01:20I think, as I say, Austin will probably continue in goal.
01:24There's a chance Richarlison and Mikey Moore might be back on the bench,
01:27but it's going to be tough, it really will be tough.
01:31That said, I think we showed in the game we lost 6-3 against Liverpool,
01:34they tore us to bits in the second half in particular,
01:37but we did hurt them and we can hurt any team.
01:41Andy only wants us to play one way.
01:43We need to get a good rest in these next couple of days,
01:46try and freshen up as much as we possibly can.
01:49And as I say, I think it's just about hanging in there, isn't it?
01:53We're not going to change the way we play and our tactics,
01:55but we have to go to Anfield with something still in the game
01:58and something left to play for, because when we come to February 6th
02:02for the second leg, we're going to have the likes of Van der Ven, Romero
02:06back among some of the others as well.
02:07So we're going to be much, much stronger.
02:10So whether we can hang in there remains to be seen.
02:12I think Liverpool will obviously rotate a little bit, or I'm hoping so.
02:16Perhaps Mo Salah could do with a rest, as could the rest of the front three,
02:20maybe bring a few kids in.
02:22But, you know, obviously they're the best team in the country at the moment.
02:25They were poor at the weekend, fair to say.
02:27That's probably one of their poorest performances of the season.
02:31So let's hope that continues on Wednesday night.
02:33And we've still got something to talk about come February 6th,
02:36because it's a huge, huge game for Spurs,
02:37and the final would be absolutely fantastic for us.
