00:00The sound somehow seems to have an effect in terms of the brain, there's increasing
00:09evidence that he's doing something, something interesting and something potentially therapeutic.
00:19The key is whether having listened to music over a longer term can have some residual
00:25for a psychological state.
00:30Music was starting to make its way back into my life. What I found subsequently was that this
00:36music provided the same therapeutic benefits that I found for myself and found that it was also
00:41doing the same thing for many people. We're starting to get an idea of the way that sound
00:47and music affects the brain. I think if we can learn with this project perhaps how some sounds
00:53and music affects people's brains we can get information that might help other people and
00:56that would be a wonderful thing to be able to do. The Perth Brain Centre were a part of the project
01:03to really measure and quantify what was happening to the brainwave activity to our participants that
01:08were listening to this experience. I'm really curious about the concept of sound and how it
01:15can be incorporated into healing and I think there's something new that we're on the edge of
01:19in terms of sound and frequency as part of the actual physical and mental healing.
01:25I intuitively feel that sound can heal. I've certainly seen how music can reach out and
01:33touch people and change their emotional state. One of the really observable aspects of exposure to
01:41music is that you can see a decrease in stress levels. We know that musical training changes
01:48brain structure. It's unequivocal now. There is increasing evidence that if you've had some
01:53musical training when you were younger you respond better to musical therapy later in life.
02:01Is it the frequency? Is it the music itself? What are the elements that make up
02:06these therapeutic benefits that I'm seeing and witnessing for almost a decade?
