U.S. President Joe Biden mentioned during a reception for new Democratic members of Congress that he has known Russian President Vladimir Putin for "over 47 years" and has met with him numerous times.
However, he appeared uncertain about the exact timing of some of their encounters.
"I remember when I met with him in the off period between the time that we were elected and before we were sworn in, or just after we were sworn in, no, actually before.
No, that's true, just after he was sworn in in early February," Biden said.
Biden noted that their discussions included re-establishing arms control and nuclear weapons.
He also recalled Putin talking about Russia's vast expanse, mentioning its "eight time zones" and their reach "around the Arctic Circle."
