00:00Hello, my name is Amber Allitt and I'm a journalist specialising in education.
00:05When the UK gets lashed by wild and snowy weather, Scotland often gets more than its
00:09fair share.
00:10When conditions get particularly perilous, schools might be left tossing up whether they
00:14think their staff and their students will be able to get there safely.
00:19If it's looking particularly unlikely, they will sometimes close temporarily.
00:23To find out the status of a school when the weather gets rough, without breaking out the
00:27radio or clogging up the phone lines, the Scottish Government has an online directory
00:32available.
00:33Here, by selecting the relevant council area for your child's school, you'll be directed
00:38to its dedicated list of all school closures in the area.
00:42These are usually updated each day once headteachers have confirmed any closures.
00:46You can find this official directory at www.mygov.scot slash school dash closures.
00:55Probably the fastest way to find out, however, is to check your school's usual means of
00:59communication.
01:00Many will also put notifications of any closures on their social media pages, or will email
01:05parents, so it's worth having a look there first.
