Powerful Earthquake in Tibet: 53 Dead, Many Trapped Under Rubble

A devastating earthquake struck Tibet, claiming at least 53 lives and leaving many trapped under debris. The quake, reported as 6.8 magnitude by the China Earthquake Networks Centre and 7.1 by the US Geological Survey, hit at 9:05am local time. Dozens of aftershocks followed, the strongest measuring 4.4 magnitude. The disaster injured 62 people, and over 1,500 rescue workers are actively conducting search-and-rescue operations. The worst-affected areas include three townships in Shigatse’s Tingri county, where buildings collapsed, and the death toll continues to rise.
