Some horror films are hot while others are just... not. Here are our predictions for which horror movies are likely to leave you wanting in 2025!

00:00What's up everybody? Griffey here. Look, we try to keep it positive around here,
00:04but there are some potential duds coming this year that we here at Slashfilm are
00:08just a tad bit worried about.
00:19We know Jennifer Love Hewitt these days from all those Hallmark pieces of sh**,
00:23but back in the day she took a stab at being a scream queen in 1997's I Know
00:28What You Did Last Summer. It did well enough to spawn a dog s**t sequel, a
00:32threequel no one saw, and a television series that even fewer people saw. Look,
00:37I'm a fan of slasher movies, but this one was just a scream cash-in from the start,
00:41and hilariously, a literal child won a contest and got to direct what became
00:46the most famous scene in this movie. Look it up. IMDB says it's true, so it's gotta
00:51be. How many other cash-ins have the legs this movie has? Just let it die and be
00:57remembered as a movie we saw once on a horrible day and then never cared about
01:01again. You think they would have learned from the other three attempts that were
01:04unwatchable? That maybe there's not a lot of meat left on these bones. Anyway, and I
01:09Know What You Did Last Summer's sequel is coming in July. J-Love is back, Freddie
01:14Prince is gonna stop cashing Star Wars checks and maybe come back, and this will
01:18be the last time anybody ever talks about it.
01:21You sent me to hell, Jason. I'm here to return the favor.
01:29I love Spawn. I love the comics, I love the movie. That movie from, again, 1997, an
01:36admittedly tough year for movies, is basically considered by audiences to be
01:40horse poop. So I have hopes that one day there will be a remake that sees this
01:44character kick ass in all his glory, but I don't know that King Spawn is it. Todd
01:49McFarlane, who I again love, has been pitching this movie since 1998. I was a
01:55child when this movie was first conceived. I had no gray hairs on top. I
02:00didn't know what a female was. I'm still learning. Development hell for 30 years
02:04is never a good start to a movie. My greatest hope for this movie is that
02:09they'll spend more than $20 on the CG, hopefully get some upper-tier actors the
02:13level of John Leguizamo as the Violator in 1997's Spawn, and hopefully they get
02:19rid of that whole subplot where he's just kind of hanging out with a child. I
02:23really don't know who the hell that was for.
02:24Hey.
02:28What's your name? Zach. I'm Al. Attaching the movie to Blumhouse is a
02:34great start. Jamie Foxx is maybe attached to this film, which is also a great
02:39start. That piques my interest. But I don't know, man. This has a scheduled
02:43release of November 2025. I'm not gonna hold my breath. If history is any
02:48indication, we ain't getting Kingspawn.
02:55The Strangers was a super popular movie that I dug a lot. One of the most famous
03:00lines in horror movie history. Why are you doing this to us? Because you're a
03:06home. The sequel was also not as beloved, but I personally liked it, right? That
03:10went a little more stylized, but it had really cool wild kills. I personally
03:15thought it was awesome. This led us to greenlight an entire trilogy. Holy crap!
03:19And to head this suddenly enormous horror franchise is Cutthroat Island's
03:23own Rinny Harlan. Look, even the horror stuff this guy's got his hands on has
03:29been mostly mediocre. The Exorcist's beginning somehow managed to be worse
03:33than The Exorcist 2. You kind of wanted Locust to eat your eyes out as that
03:37movie was playing. The Covenant was a movie. That's all I have to say about
03:40that. And look, I love Nightmare on Elm Street 4. I love Deep Blue Sea as much as
03:44the next guy, but when I watch them I don't get the kind of movies that scream
03:48the aesthetics of, this guy should make three more The Strangers movies. So The
03:52Strangers Chapter 1 came out in 2024, and it's just kind of a half remake, right?
03:57There's no ideas. There's no energy. There's no teeth. Definitely not the kind
04:01of movie that necessitates an entire trilogy to unspool. This series is rife
04:07with potential, but I'm a little worried that The Strangers Chapter 2 will be
04:11another disappointment, dropping at some point in 2025.
04:18Let me out! Here's something you'll learn about me. When I make a list, I like to
04:24have at least one choice where I will be 100% wrong. This unnamed sequel probably
04:30will make north of $150 million. Here's something to ponder. We never got a Roger
04:35Rabbit sequel. We never got a Spaceball sequel. But somehow Insidious is about to
04:41drop its sixth and seventh film this year. How many ideas can they milk from
04:46this cash cow? Put the teat down, I beg you! The last movie about his son who just goes
04:52to college and just does crayon drawings everywhere was nearly unwatchable. Big
04:57respect to Patrick Wilson for coming out and directing it. He tried to give it a
05:01more humanistic feel and kind of sell the emotions of Insidious, which we
05:05haven't had since really the first movie. Good idea, not done well. I just got to
05:12the point where I was like, sometimes there is too much of a good thing. I
05:15liked Insidious. I don't need 10 more. Again, let's try and start 2025 with some
05:23positive energy. I'll be the first in line if these movies are good and make a
05:27ton of money. My bad, me culpa. Fingers crossed this whole video ends up on
05:33Freezing Cold Takes.
