00:00Evacuees in Baguio City are grateful for the government's assistance in the celebration of Christmas and New Year.

00:11This is what Bernard Susbilla of the Philippine Information Agency, Western Visayas, reported.

00:19Even though their homes are far away, the evacuees are still happy to celebrate Christmas and New Year in Manuel Torres Sports Center, Baguio City.

00:29This is because of the assistance they received from the government,

00:33which brought them wealth and happiness, instead of their families.

00:38According to Benvenido Oplas, 43 years old from Purok Talong, Ilihan, Baguio City,

00:43despite his feelings of Christmas and New Year in the evacuation center,

00:47he will choose to stay here to ensure the safety of his loved ones in life

00:52in the midst of the ongoing and subsequent eruption of the volcano.

00:57It's good that social workers, barangay health workers, evacuation camp personnel,

01:03police and other government officials are here to assist in the evacuation center.

01:09We are grateful for the people who helped us.

01:13The city government, DSWD, CSWD, BHW, police,

01:21all of them are here for our safety, for the sacrifices we made for Christmas,

01:26for the sacrifices we made for New Year.

01:30They are here to help us with our Christmas gifts, food,

01:39McDonald's, Jollibee.

01:41I am very thankful to them.

01:44When we came here to the evacuation center,

01:52we didn't expect to find a place to sleep.

01:57We didn't expect to find a place to sleep.

02:00We didn't expect to find food.

02:03When we came here, the city government gave us a new place to sleep.

02:07Despite the good condition of his family in the evacuation center,

02:11OPLAS asked the government to help them find a place to live,

02:15to educate their children,

02:17and to compensate for their lost homes when they return.

02:21We are also thankful to Janeline Medel from Ilihan, Bago City,

02:26to the government offices and agencies who continue to provide assistance and support to their evacuees.
