00:00Former Taipei Mayor Ke Wen-je has officially resigned as chair of the political party he
00:05founded, the Taiwan People's Party, as he faces a corruption trial.
00:10The most important reason why we are holding this meeting is that I personally want to
00:15resign as party chairman.
00:17Because I don't want to let this long judicial process, the blurred focus, interfere with
00:22the development of the entire Taiwan People's Party.
00:24I don't want the entire party to be dragged down.
00:28It marks a significant political humbling for Koh, who ran for president in 2024 on
00:33a platform of disrupting Taiwan's two-party system.
00:36Koh won more than a quarter of votes in the election, but last week he was indicted on
00:41corruption charges.
00:43TPP legislator Huang Guochang will take over as acting chair until the party can hold a
00:48vote on its next leader.
