Some might argue that poutine, smoked meat or bagels are Montreal’s true claim to fame but it seems we’ve all forgotten about one dish that hits every. single. time. Chicken. Rotisserie chicken is just as much a staple across the 514 — with countless family-run spots and chains galore that are found all throughout Quebec. So, when it came down to narrowing down the best of the best, only two restaurants came to mind for MTL Blog’s Mike Chaar: St-Hubert BBQ and Ma Poule Mouillée. Find out which one came out on top!

00:12Hey Montreal, Mike Sharpe from MTL Blog
00:14coming at you with another food battle video.
00:17This time around, rotisserie chicken.
00:20I'm heading on over to Mapu Muyeh right now,
00:22which is regarded as one of the best spots
00:24here in the city for rotisserie chicken.
00:26Their menu is easily topped here,
00:28but I'm pitting it against none other
00:30than Quebec's very own chain restaurant,
00:32Saint-Hubert Barbecue.

00:43Well, I'll be ordering the same dish from each restaurant,
00:45chicken, french fries, and salad,

05:43So the coleslaw's bomb.
05:45I prefer coleslaw than something like a mixed

05:53just is sort of the texture I'm sort of looking for.
05:57So yeah, I have a lot to think about.
05:59I really do.
06:01Yeah, I'm gonna finish this up

06:07If we take into consideration the criteria costs,
06:10If we take into consideration the criteria costs,
06:12flavor, and presentation,
06:14I would say when it comes to cost for Saint-Hubert,
06:16not bad at all,
06:17but still more expensive than Mapoule Mouillé,
06:19so I'm giving them a score on five.
06:22When it comes to flavor, yo, it was pretty bomb,
06:26especially with the barbecue sauce.
06:27The chicken was very succulent, very juicy,
06:29lots of flavor, so I'm giving that a solid score on five.
06:33And then when it comes to presentation,
06:34very neat, very organized.
06:36I love when everything is sort of separate.
06:38So definitely a solid four and five on that as well.
06:42Okay, it's the very next day.
06:44I have had time to thaw out from the cold.
06:46I've had time to eat my Mapoule Mouillé leftovers.
06:49Y'all, it's verdict time.
06:53So the winner of this food battle
06:55is Mapoule Mouillé with a total score of 13 out of 15,
06:59whereas Saint-Hubert came in with a 12 out of 15.
07:02So Mapoule Mouillé only won by the skin of its teeth
07:05or the chicken skin of its teeth.
07:08But honestly, it all came down to the chicken's flavor.
07:10Mapoule Mouillé, the Portuguese chicken,
07:12the spice blend that they use,
07:14it's just an explosion in your mouth every time you have it.
07:18And it could stand alone.
07:20You don't really need a side.
07:21You don't need anything to accompany the meal.
07:23The Mapoule Mouillé chicken is just fire on its own.
07:27Whereas Saint-Hubert, the chicken is good.
07:29Great even, don't get me wrong.
07:31But you need a little barbecue sauce sometimes.
07:33You need a little ketchup in order to make it perfect.
07:36So it really comes down to whatever secret
07:38Mapoule Mouillé has on that chicken,
07:40and it did them justice.
07:41But there is only one Mapoule Mouillé here in Montreal.
07:45Yes, only one located here in the Plateau.
07:48So if you can't get your hands on Mapoule Mouillé,
07:49Saint-Hubert is obviously your next best bet
07:52for rotisserie chicken.
07:53You honestly can't go wrong.
07:54Thank you all so much for watching this food battle.
07:56Definitely check us out on our next one.
07:59And I hope you have the best day ever.
