00:00We're going to spend the next couple segments, the next little while hanging out with our buddy
00:06coach James Young here. I think we, are we going to coach earlier? Are we going to coach in a
00:10little while? I think we have coach now, right? All right. Yeah. We're going to coach now. Bring
00:14in coach James Young. I mean, coach, we, I feel like we started the, our segment off the air.
00:19We started our whole basketball NBA conversation before we even welcomed you in officially,
00:25but of course, a sports grid basketball analyst and does so much across the network. One's great
00:30to see you happy holidays, happy early new year, all of that, but man, you're fired up. So let's
00:35just start there before we even talk about today's basketball games. Some of what you're going on
00:40right now and on into the evening, you're still kind of get it's the coach in you. You're still
00:45kind of getting over this Mike Brown situation in Sacramento. I mean, AK always great to be
00:51on with your brother. Happy new year to you and the family. Listen, this Mike Brown thing is such
00:57a damn joke of what went on in Sacramento. And I want, I want people to understand. I talked about
01:03this on my podcast yesterday. I want people to just sit back and listen to me for a minute.
01:08This is an organization that since the firing of Rick Alleman in 2006, think about these coaches
01:17and some, and let me tell you something. Some of these coaches are damn good ones. Eric Musselman,
01:22damn good coach, right? Reggie Theus, Kenny Nett, Paul Westfall went to a finals with the Phoenix
01:27Suns. Keith Smart. Oh yeah, Michael Malone. Oh yeah, the Michael Malone that went to Denver and
01:32won a championship. Tyrone Corbin, George Corle, basically a hall of famer. Dave Jaeger, Luke
01:37Walton, Alvin Gentry. Not one of those guys had a winning percentage of higher than 422.
01:45Higher than 422. And that's Luke Walton. And I'm not going to talk about another coach, but you can
01:50kind of go where I'm thinking with Luke Walton. So at one point, you guys are looking at the organization,
01:54right? They are a clown show of an organization, right? This guy, Mike Brown, got them, was
02:00legitimate for the first time in damn near a quarter century. They go and get DeMar DeRozan.
02:07Folks, here's the next guy I want to pull up. DeMar DeRozan. Go look at his track record, folks.
02:1216 years in the NBA. Only seven times in the playoffs. DeMar DeRozan, only been to one
02:18conference finals, right? DeMar DeRozan, they couldn't get rid of you fast enough in Toronto,
02:23and they wouldn't want to bring the year after you got there. DeMar DeRozan, everywhere he's gone,
02:30the lifespan of the games he's played in, every team, Toronto, San Antonio, Chicago, Sacramento,
02:39all four franchises under 500. And then lastly, De'Aaron Fox. The De'Aaron Fox that came up
02:47two days after Mike Brown got fired and said, oh, we had a great relationship. Oh, I love Mike Brown.
02:55Oh, that's the only coach I want to play for. But up three, you're guarding the bait. You're
03:02guarding the block instead of Jay Niby in the corner. Then you foul a guy in a three-point shot.
03:07That De'Aaron Fox? Or is it the De'Aaron Fox that wanted to play for Mike Brown,
03:12but didn't sign a contract extension? So, which is it? And then lastly, I'm going to go to the
03:18organization as a whole, front office. How do you let a guy walk into your building, run practice,
03:27run a press conference, leave the building, and then you fire him on a cell phone call, right?
03:35And then the next day, you have the players first off saying they've got to address the media
03:42before the front office. Sacramento, I said it yesterday. Like the beam, I took, I screwed the
03:49beam. I stepped on the beam. I threw the beam out the window. The beam done, gone. Change the hashtag.
03:56Like the beam, beam done, finished. I'm done with them. As you can tell, coach is completely
04:02unbothered by what is happening out there. I love it. I love it. Hey, we've got a couple games
04:08going on right now. And this one, this, you know, my, my beloved Celtics, they're playing host to
04:13the Raptors. It's halftime and coach, this game is 45, 35. Now the score in terms of deficit
04:22is not all that surprising. You know, pregame, I, I invested in Toronto plus 17 and a half.
04:27It's still plus 16 and a half on the live line at even money. But what is shocking is the overall
04:33output. The fact that we have again, 80 total points in this game, the pregame total that I
04:39made the mistake of investing in the over on was two 33 right now in the live. Now people went
04:46under, you got yourselves a hell of a middle situation to win two bets because the, the line
04:51right now coach is sitting at one 98 and a half 30 plus points below the pregame total at halftime.
04:59Do you think we get over 200 points in this game? Here's my concern folks with Boston right now.
05:08And it's my problem. And I'm completely different than a lot of people in regards to my coaching.
05:13The NBA has gone to analytics based, right? It's kind of like they want to play numbers. The
05:19mid range game has got thrown out of the NBA for the sake of the three. Boston is eight of 25 from
05:26three in the first half. You're like 32%. That's not terrible. Do yourself a favor. Jason Tatum.
05:34Oh, for four. Al Horford. Oh, for five. Sam Houser. Oh, for two. Jalen Brown. Oh, for two.
05:42Just, just take out Peyton Pritchard and they're four for 16 from three. You take out Holiday and
05:50White. They don't got a three. So to me, Boston's got to stop relying on the three points out they
05:56shoot. They're going to smash the NBA record. The only reason why this game is the way it is,
06:02is they're 32% and Adam, they're outshooting the Raptors because they're at 26%. So to me,
06:10when you have a team that takes more than half of their shots from three, both teams have done it.
06:15All you got to hope for is a little bit of a run, but this is going to be my concern with Boston.
06:21And when you can't make shots, dammit, you got, you got JT, you got JB, put your head down and
06:29go to the basket. The Knicks showed something a couple of nights ago when they played Orlando.
06:33I think they made four three-pointers and they went by 15 points. You can win the game
06:40in the mid-range game and going inside. I would like to see Boston do this a little bit more.
06:49J Y the other game happening right now, which is also just gone to the half. We got plenty more
06:53points, Indiana and Milwaukee. The Pacers are leading this one 64 to 53. You can get Milwaukee
06:59plus seven and a half. If you want to invest in the bucks. Now, I think what's intriguing
07:04about this one that, that may actually lead you to want to bet Milwaukee, maybe even on the money
07:11line in this one that is plus two 40 is there are three guys in double figures and scoring for the
07:17box. Those are Chris Middleton, Brooke Lopez, Bobby Portis. They each have 10 points. You know,
07:23how many points combined Giannis and Tentacumpo and Damian Lillard have? I'll tell you four,
07:28four points. That is because Lillard is over seven and Giannis is one for four. He's barely
07:34even shot. Half his points have come with the free throw line. I have to believe that in the
07:38second half that is going to change. And if Milwaukee is sitting right now, basically down
07:4310 points, getting four points of production from its two stars, that seems like the hammer spot.
07:49Yeah, it does seem like the hammer spot. I think the, the, the way you look at it is
07:54also Giannis has three fouls in the first half. So that's a big key. So you got to go and try and
07:59find where you could find their value right now. Giannis to get 20 plus points is plus 140 right
08:06now on Fandor. Simply put, they don't play no damn defense in Indiana. If he stays in a foul
08:11trouble, you think he's going to smash this. I can see a huge third quarter out of Giannis. And
08:17it's the same thing with, with Dane. Listen, at the end of the day, they're not going to play
08:21defense, but this is the problem with Milwaukee. They're wildly inconsistent. I, I don't care that
08:27they won the NBA cup. I don't care. It's still being run by. No, I know. Number one fan of the
08:35Doc Rivers fan club, coach James Young. Not really don't want to go there, but at the end of the day,
08:41we'll walk you. We'll not get the wind, but I think Giannis will go off in the second half.
08:46If he stays out of foul trouble. Already a massive upset today. You had West Virginia
08:51go, uh, go into Kansas, take down the Jayhawks 62 61 to knock off the number 17 in the country
08:58hand Kansas's third loss while improving to 10 and two, these Mountaineers not screwing around.
09:05No, these Mountaineers get, get a, get a huge win on the road. Gotta remember, uh, that,
09:10that the second lead scorer Tucker DeVries, who's the head coach's son, uh, transfer, uh, didn't even
09:15play in this game. And, and the Kansas team that, that they're shooting is, is a problem.
09:22Okay. And I, I want people to understand that this is, this is why I just talked about the NBA. Like
09:28this is the, what we're at now, folks, you got to be able to shoot the three and you can't in your
09:33own building, go at four out of 16 from the floor. You can't in your own building have AJ Adams,
09:39who should be a double, double guy, get you two points. You can't have AJ store was a transfer,
09:44give you a goose egg, the one Howard Harris, 11 points. Kansas has some concerns. And that's why
09:51this big 12 race is going to be so crazy because of the fact that that would kids, you know,
09:56you can look at, uh, you know, Houston isn't showing the defensive tenacity that we think of
10:02Kansas state is down. Baylor's barely in the top 25. I've been teaching also burger and Iowa state
10:08should be the favorites right now to win the league. I still think Houston makes a run,
10:13but this is a concerning team because number one, uh, Kansas doesn't lose at home. Number two,
10:20they don't lose at home to unranked teams. That's a really bad loss, uh, for bill self and the
10:26Kansas Jayhawks. Meanwhile, coming up in about 20 ish minutes, we got an ACC showdown between Duke
10:34and Virginia tech. The question here is, do you roll with me? Because I have already laid the 24
10:40and a half with the blue devils. Do you do the same? Yeah. I mean, if you look at the fact that
10:44Virginia, Texas came off a 20 point loss to St. Joe's, uh, 16 point loss to Vanderbilt not too
10:50long ago in a Duke team, that's really started to find his, his groove, you know, Duke team that,
10:56you know, people were showing a little bit concerns where they're too tight losses folks.
11:00It was Kentucky by five and it was Kansas by three. It's not like they lost scrubs
11:05ever since then went by 22 over Seattle, beat Auburn. I know that home by six beat Louisville
11:12by 11, beat, uh, uh, another seat by 20 and everybody came and it's just be joined by 26
11:17points. So I would expect Duke to cover the spread, uh, in the, in the odds right now,
11:22Duke is a heavy favorite of minus two 40 to win the ACC. I can't, I mean, yes, they should win it,
11:28but I, you know what I mean? I can't do that. I need some kind of value. That's why I still think,
11:31uh, North Carolina is intriguing because of their backcourt and the fact that Hubert Davis's
11:36teams are, they're really flaky folks. I'm going to give you something you need to do.
11:41If North Carolina and not playing today, I don't believe if they are playing a right team,
11:50go with the right team in the first half of the money line, and then go back the other way.
11:54It's like a Carolina has this crazy habit of being one of the worst teams offensively in the first
12:00half defensively. And then the second half, they find a way to turn it on. They don't always steal
12:05games, but they always make a run. Just a little tip to how to bet the Tar Heels right now.
12:11Over in the big East coach, you have Marquette at Providence. Now it's a six and a half point
12:16spread Marquette. We know is the superior team. That being said, the old dunk there can be a
12:21tricky place to play. The dunk is a, has a always been a tough place to play, but you got to look
12:26at the Providence team. That's lost two of the last three games that they, they had a wild game
12:31right before Christmas. They lost to St. John's at the buzzer 72 70. I, I love Shaka smart and what
12:38he does. I obviously have two losses that they have or at Dayton at Iowa state. I think Marquette
12:44gets the wind and the cover here. There's usually that line. It's usually for me, Adam. It's usually
12:49like four and a half, five and a half. If a ranked team is like four and a half, five and a half road
12:55favorite, I go the other way and just go upset. It's six and a half. So I'm going to say Marquette
13:01gets the wind and the cover. They are the co-favorites at plus one 75 right now, the wind,
13:06the big East. Let's circle it back to the NBA coach. We have four games tonight, but I'm just
13:11going to tell you my favorite play. And it's a little stroll down narrative street, my friend.
13:16I love the narratives and there's no narrative that I could support more than this one today,
13:21which is LeBron James who turned 40 yesterday. So this is his first game in his forties for the
13:27Lakers who is playing host to his original team, his hometown team, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now,
13:35I don't know if the Lakers are going to win this game, even though I think they will probably
13:38because I don't know the universe works in mysterious ways. Sure. The Cavs are the better
13:42team, but the play that I like, you're going to give me LeBron over twin 23 and a half points.
13:48That's it 23 and a half points. And the guy's been lighting it up of late anyway,
13:52and he's not going to look to show out at home against his old team as a 40 year old. Now,
13:57yes, please take my money. I like that play and it'll be interesting. The Lakers with the trade
14:05to me, it's more about addition by subtraction in regards to getting the low off the roster.
14:09They need to do it, but I do think Dorian Finney Smith and shake Milton help fortify that bench,
14:15especially the way that Dorian Finney Smith shooting over 40% from three. So I agree with
14:20you. I do like that play in regards to plays that I like tonight. I like the San Antonio Spurs
14:27minus the point. You look at the fact that Clippers on the second leg of a back-to-back.
14:30I think you can get the Spurs with value there. I do also like the Grizzlies plus the points
14:37at Phoenix. I know Devin Booker is back. Phoenix are two different teams when it comes to how they
14:42play with everybody without I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to take the point with the Grizzlies
14:48and then OKC versus the Timberwolves. I'm going to lay the points with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
14:53I Adam I Minnesota's not right. I know they got that way to over over Dallas on Christmas Day.
15:01They're not right that this heart this Randall thing ain't working. It doesn't go well with me.
15:09I do think the Thunder will get the win in the cover, but I do like Rudy Gobert over 10 and
15:12a half rebounds because he's got to deal with Hartenstein. He's got to stay inside big Rudy
15:17will at least get over 10 and a half boards tonight. Seems to be following Julius Randall,
15:23doesn't it? Wasn't the right fit in New York either. Hey, listen, I'll tell you right now,
15:27you know what Randall will ball out next year. Why it's the last year of his deal. Remember the
15:33thumbs down you at the Knicks terrible next year was his last year balled out with Randall.
15:39It comes down to the money.
