00:00Along with welcoming the new year, some hospitals were monitored for firecracker-related injuries
00:06just like in Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
00:09And the first news is from Pa Malegre.
00:13Bam!
00:17Happy New Year Van and Kapuso here in Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.
00:21Monitoring of firecracker-related injuries continues.
00:25So far, in our running count, there are 83 injuries here in the hospital
00:31since December 21.
00:33That's their number.
00:35Three of them are tagged as unknown or not known
00:40what kind of firecrackers were shot at them.
00:4310 were shot because of 5-star or triangular,
00:468 for kingkong, and 6 for whistlebomb.
00:48There were also injuries because of illegal firecrackers like
00:53piccolo, judas belt, dynamite, and maski-boga.
00:5610 were cut by the body part or amputation.
01:02While more than 50 were hit by blast burn or lapnos and wounds because of explosion,
01:07more than 20 experienced eye injury.
01:10In the same time frame, last year, there were more than 50 firecracker-related injuries
01:15after 12 a.m. last year.
01:17Now, there are more than 34 recorded since last night.
01:22I hope it won't increase.
01:2355 are considered passive cases or those who were involved
01:27while 28 are active cases.
01:29There are more injured men compared to women who are only 11
01:34and the men are 72.
01:36And there are more 18-years-old and above who are recorded as 46
01:39compared to younger ones who are 37.
01:43We are now here in the emergency room of JRMMC.
01:47In our monitoring this morning, we were not able to identify anyone who was injured.
01:52So, hopefully, this is a positive indication that there won't be more
01:57firecracker-related injuries this day.
02:00This is the first news from Manila.
02:02Bam Alegre for GMA Integrated News.
02:04Bam, as you mentioned, there were more than 80 cases last night.
02:10Just last night, in Salubo.
02:14Okay.
02:15Okay.
02:16From 12 a.m. until now, there were more than 30.
02:21There were more than 30 firecracker-related injuries.
02:23So, they are saying that it's a big improvement compared to the same time frame last year
02:28because 12 a.m. last year, there were more than 50 injuries.
02:32Now, there are only 30.
02:34So, hopefully, this trend will continue so that there won't be more than 50 injuries this day.
02:42Okay.
02:43Let's just repeat our message especially to the kids.
02:46Don't fall because there are a lot of people who didn't explode
02:50and it's possible for them to explode if you play with them.
02:52Thank you very much.
02:53Bam Alegre.
