00:00And it was on Monday, the second to last day of 2024,
00:04that we witnessed certainly some good football,
00:06both college and pro.
00:08And we didn't expect it might be a good game,
00:11a meaningless game on Monday night down in Santa Clara
00:14at Levi's Stadium between the San Francisco 49ers
00:17and the Detroit Lions.
00:18But it turned out to really be a dandy.
00:21And of course, speaking of dandy, Dan Campbell,
00:24a dandy indeed.
00:26You gotta love this guy.
00:27He didn't need to play his starters.
00:30This game was relatively meaningless.
00:32It didn't mean positioning as far as seeding.
00:35That game, of course, will come this Sunday night,
00:37the final game of the 2024 regular season in the NFL
00:42will be a biggie.
00:43The Detroit Lions taking on the Minnesota Vikings
00:46at Ford Field in Detroit,
00:47and that will be for the number one seed in the NFC.
00:51The 49ers have been eliminated from the playoffs,
00:55so the game meant nothing to them,
00:56but the Detroit Lions come away with a victory
00:59and a cover, 40 to 34, your final.
01:03This was really a back and forth affair.
01:05Maybe that defense, something to be concerned about
01:08for the Detroit Lions going forward.
01:10Of course, a lot of injuries on that defense.
01:13This was once the most powerful team in the NFL,
01:16but they have been hampered by injuries as of late.
01:18We'll see if they can make that patchwork necessary
01:22that they need to improve before that meeting
01:25with the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night.
01:27But a great game, certainly at Levi's Stadium.
01:29The game sails over the total.
01:31Again, 40 to 34, your final.
01:33The Lions cover as three and a half,
01:36even as high as four and a half point favorites
01:38prior to kick.
01:39And after the game, they asked Coach Campbell
01:42about the decision that he had to make
01:44about resting the starters or going for broke here
01:47and playing everybody as per normal.
01:49And, you know, Dan Campbell is that aggressive guy,
01:52but he said he had to mull over this decision
01:55for a while heading in.
01:56I thought a lot about it, you know,
01:58I thought about it leading up to the game.
01:59I thought about it last night.
02:00I told the staff, but I ended up settling on
02:05the right thing to do was play these guys.
02:07And because we owed it to the team, you know,
02:11and it was just one of those positions we were in.
02:16It's just hard to say who you're gonna sit.
02:18And it's not fair to ask guys to play
02:22that haven't been prepared to play, you know?
02:24So, yeah, that was tough.
02:27And I think the biggest thing is there was things
02:30we wanted to do better than we did last week.
02:33And we did, we cleaned a lot of things up offensively.
02:36I thought defensively, we talked about getting takeaways,
02:38we got takeaways.
02:39And so that'll always serve you well
02:42going into the next week.
02:43And look, there was never gonna be anything, you know,
02:47we knew what this is.
02:48You're out on the West Coast, you go, man, it's all good.
02:51That's what we do.
02:52You know what I mean?
02:53That's what we do.
02:54Like we love it hard and this is our deal right now.
02:58So we're looking forward to this,
03:00everything about this week.
03:03This is what we do and we love it hard.
03:05Dan Campbell, you gotta love them.
03:06They win and they will take on again,
03:09the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday.
03:10The final game of the 2024 regular season
03:13will be for all the marbles in the NFC Minnesota,
03:17really a surprise team this year.
03:19And, you know, hats off to them,
03:20no matter what happens on Sunday,
03:22an incredible season for their coach,
03:24Kevin O'Connell and company,
03:25and equally so for Dan Campbell and the Detroit Lions.
03:29Kyle Shanahan on the losing end,
03:31head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
03:33I mentioned that they have been eliminated
03:36from the playoffs for a couple of weeks now.
03:38So how does he prepare his team?
03:40And it's the Monday night spotlight.
03:42We understand that, but Kyle said, you know,
03:44we treat it as any other contest.
03:47Try to approach the same way we approach every game,
03:49try our hardest to win and try to play our best.
03:52I thought the guys played real hard.
03:53I thought they competed,
03:54had about every chance to beat
03:56a real good football team there.
03:59Obviously not everything was perfect.
04:02And I thought, you know,
04:03we weren't able to slow them down enough on defense.
04:06It's a real good offense,
04:07but still thought we should slow them down
04:09a little bit more.
04:11Thought the difference in the game though was,
04:13you know, and then obviously the type of game it was,
04:15they'd been in a number of those games this year,
04:18but we had to win it in a shootout.
04:20And I thought the difference was our two turnovers
04:24and getting none.
04:25Once that happened, it kind of,
04:27that's why you end up losing by one score.
04:29Shanahan was also asked about his struggling place kicker,
04:33Jake Moody, who missed two field goals on Monday night
04:37and an extra point.
04:38I believe it was 10 out of his last 17 field goals
04:42had been made.
04:43And I don't think that counted the last one.
04:45I heard that during the broadcast.
04:47I believe it was Joe Buck mentioned that.
04:49So a real struggle for a guy that was a third round pick
04:52out of Michigan who they had high hopes for.
04:55He was asked if they will be evaluating
04:57the kicker position in the off season.
05:00He said, yes, we're evaluating all positions,
05:02but it'll be interesting to see if Jake Moody
05:04is a San Francisco 49er going forward.
05:07There was some, you know, insult to injury, if you will,
05:12for the San Francisco 49ers
05:14for their star quarterback, Brock Purdy.
05:16Of course, he had surgery in the off season
05:19on that elbow, on the throwing arm,
05:21and suffered a bit of a nick to that same arm
05:25with a sack towards the end of the game on Monday night.
05:29And Purdy talked about that, said, you know,
05:31he's not really sure if it's anything serious or not,
05:34but not feeling so great after re-injuring,
05:37possibly, this arm again on Monday against the Lions.
05:40Any indication about the status of your elbow?
05:43Nothing right now.
05:45We're gonna get an MRI tomorrow and see, so.
05:47Is it a concern to you at this point?
05:49I mean, it doesn't feel the best,
05:50but just leave it at that.
05:53So we'll see you tomorrow.
05:54Can you describe what happened?
05:57On that sack, I got hit on the backside,
06:00and yeah, basically just my arm was on fire kind of thing.
06:04And so I tried throwing a couple on the sideline
06:08and I couldn't at that point.
06:09So yeah, it has nothing to do with tapping out of the game
06:13or anything like that.
06:15Love my teammates and I'll go to the very end for them
06:18and this fan base and everybody.
06:19So that's what hurts me is like,
06:22I couldn't finish the game.
06:23But again, we'll see tomorrow.
06:27Speculation now looms if Purdy will start
06:30the final game of the season here in week 18.
06:33Of course, he has a big contract to negotiate
06:36in the off season.
06:37We'll see if he gets that top quarterback money.
06:39That's really a decision the San Francisco 49ers
06:43have to make going forward with their quarterback.
06:46The final player drafted in the draft a few years back,
06:49Brock Purdy, amazing where his career has come.
06:52Now decision time for San Francisco
06:54if they're going to pay him the big time bucks.
06:57Other news in the NFL,
06:59the New York Jets looking for their next coach.
07:02Of course, Jeff Olbrich, a former San Francisco 49er,
07:05an interim coach there filling in for Robert Sala.
07:10And now they look to make a permanent move here
07:12and both Ron Rivera and apparently Rex Ryan,
07:16our candidates.
07:16Of course, Ryan coached the Jets formerly
07:19and Ron Rivera, his latest stint
07:21with the Washington Commanders.
07:23So two names out there currently,
07:25apparently interviewing or being considered
07:27by the New York Jets to be their new head coach in 2025.
07:32Not good news for these athletes
07:34and their homes being burglarized.
07:37Apparently this is becoming more of a thing.
07:39We heard about it with Joe Burrow,
07:41the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback,
07:43Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelsey,
07:45the Kansas City Chiefs duo.
07:47Apparently their homes have been burglarized as well.
07:50And now the latest moving over into the NBA,
07:53Luka Doncic home was burglarized recently here,
07:56Dallas police reporting that.
07:59So tough news there.
08:00The FBI now getting involved.
08:02Apparently some organized crimes possibly
08:04out of South America getting involved in this thing.
08:07And they warn these spouses, girlfriends,
08:09what have you of these athletes
08:11while they're playing their games,
08:12not to go on social media and tell your friends
08:14that the home is not occupied.
08:17But we will see where that goes going forward.
08:20Also some college football news,
08:22Missouri beat Iowa in the Music City Bowl on Monday, 27-24.
08:28Missouri covered as a one and a half point favorite
08:31and that game sailed over the total of 41 and a half.
08:35The Tigers finished the season at 10 and three
08:38and the Iowa Hawkeyes finished the season at eight and five.
