00:00Another new year is approaching and we have a great desire for the new.

00:18The desire for the new is the desire for becoming, is it not?

00:26Do you understand why we keep looking forward to dates?

00:34The next important date, the next important date.

00:38Because there is a great need to become.

00:43Because we are yearning for change and there is a hope that maybe the next date might bring

00:52that change in my life.

01:01You don't need the new.

01:04Wherever there is need, there is dependence on time.

01:14You say something will come and provide me the new, is it not?

01:20You are dependent then on the future.

01:26The new will not come to you via time.

01:31The new is not contained in the future.

01:36Look at what is there currently, rather what is here currently.

01:45You will find the eternally new here.

01:50You will find the ancient new here.

01:54No new year will give you the new.

01:59So many new years have come and gone and become old years.

02:04What is happy new year today becomes sad old year very quickly, does it not?

02:13And they have come and gone and still you don't see another one comes like a deft salesman

02:26who has been duping you since centuries, another one comes and he is confident.

02:37I will nail this customer once again.

02:40I did that on 31st last year, I will do it again on 31st this year.

02:49He is so confident.

02:53And you will again buy that happy new year.

03:01The ones who keep parroting happy new year, happy new year, ask them what happened to

03:05all your sad old years?

03:08Who will look at them?

03:12And how much happiness do you need that 30, 40, 50 new years could not supply it to you?

03:19And if 50 years could not supply it to you, how would the 51st be any different?

03:28The new, the happiness that you are looking for will not come through experience, will

03:33not come through time.

03:36It comes when you are a little less insistent upon cheating yourself.

03:46Look around, look at your relationships, look at your mind, look at your thoughts and maybe

03:53you will suddenly cry out, the new, yes it is new, quite new, very new.

04:04The looking is new.

04:12Looking is new, so new, I never looked.

04:19And it is so damn new that every time I look at it, it is again new, a newness that replenishes

04:29itself, a newness that is like a fountain, like a river, that has an inexhaustible source

04:45that is replenishing the flow.

04:55Yes, every time you put your hand in it, all you get is fresh water, the same spot, the

05:09same hand, but the water is fresh, new, you don't have to move an inch, yes, you don't

05:21have to wait for the next happy new year, just jump into the river, every single drop

05:33of water that will come to you is, is new, you don't have to say that, you know, the

05:46next fresh stream will come only in next December, every moment.

06:06Those who will try to place and locate the new in time, the new in future, the new in

06:14specific events, will forever remain the clowns of existence.

07:05If you could be just a little more meditative, you would ask, what was I doing the same time

07:14last year?

07:17Instead of fancying about what you would do the next year, why can't you go into the facts

07:26of what you have been continuously doing?

07:33It was the same you, yes, a little bit has changed on the surface, but your central tendencies

07:39have not changed.

07:40So, it was the same you last year as well, yes, you have gained 2 kg, but still you are

07:53pretty much the same, and you are hopping and jumping and squealing, and what did you

08:08get last year?

08:28relationships, an ugly new job, more dependence on hope, and remember how you were hopping

08:55and jumping, you remember the woman you rushed to kiss when they switched off the lights,

09:07sharp at midnight, that was supposed to be a happy new year kiss, and that woman is kissing

09:20your neighbor today, and it is not as if all this doesn't matter to you, all this is eating

09:39out your heart, it is gnawing at the roots of your mind, and again you are ready to repeat

10:06the same tomfoolery, happy new year, the kid that you were desperate for last year

10:32is in your arms today, and it hasn't helped, you are still as desperate and as hollow

10:46as when you were wishing to have a kid, the kid is there, your wish has been granted,

11:04but you are equally distraught, your eyes are so poor, last year you were poor, without

11:31a job, this year you are poor with a job, jobs have come and gone, but your poorness,

11:54your internal poverty has remained, happy new year, and there would be a particular

12:16happy new year, after which there would be no more new years for you, who knows this

12:24one might be that, and then you shudder to think of that, you don't even want to look

12:36at this possibility, you say why must I listen to this crap, let's think positive, let's

12:43have rather happy thoughts, it's an auspicious day, we are commencing a new year, the fellow

12:57is talking of death, I am talking of death, some of us might not be there to say happy

13:18new year again, I must talk of death.

13:30Is there anything that this new year can give you?

13:36You being what you were always throughout all these years, what will this new year give

13:46you, and this new year might be your last, and if this one is not the last, one particular

13:53year will come which will be your last, how do you know that you would have been redeemed

14:03even partially by then, how do you know that your soul sapping thirst would have been quenched

14:15even a little by then, you are just repeating your routines, and when you are repeating

14:20your routines, how can you ever get anything new, all these new years will keep coming

14:28and going and there would be no newness, and then there is just death of the body, no more

14:37new years, on one hand you say you want something new, on the other hand you are constantly

14:47repeating the old by just saying happy new year, happy new year, don't you see the deep

14:58contradiction between your desire and actions, you want the new, don't you, and if you don't

15:12want the new, then why do you always put up such an exciting show whenever something even

15:24remotely new happens, so it is certain that you are not quite contented with what is,

15:32you want change, on one hand you want change, on the other hand you won't let change happen,

15:44you just keep repeating, life is repetition, with no observation of the machinery, the

16:13machinery keeps operating on the auto mode, so what happens when you observe the machinery,

16:29something new emerges from it, no, the machinery would remain machinery, the observation is

16:46the newness, your glance, your sight won't change the machinery as such, but there is

17:09something about observation which will give you a taste of the new.
