00:00time to talk to our guy, Mr. PFT commenter from the world famous, pardon my take podcast
00:06PFT. What up, man? How are you, buddy?
00:08Hey, good morning, JP. Good morning, B Mitch. How are we doing? We are, we are great, man.
00:14You're Washington commanders are 10 and five and playing Sunday night football with a chance
00:18to clinch a playoff spot. You know, we've all been along every step of the way here,
00:25but if I had told you back in August, Hey man, right after Christmas, they're 10 and
00:30five and could clinch before the season's over. What would you have thought?
00:34Yeah. I'd say shut up and take my money a hundred percent. Like this is, this is a very
00:39good spot that we've got ourselves in. I kind of wish that we were going up against cousins.
00:45I'll be honest with you. Like I was looking forward to playing Kirk cousins, I guess maybe
00:49the way that he's been playing kind of had to do that. But with Penn X it's like, I don't,
00:53I don't know what we're going to get. Cause he was, he's a great college quarterback. He
00:57looked pretty good last week, but we didn't really see that much from him. So I'd rather
01:00take the, I'd take the devil, you know, with Kirk over, over pecs, because this guy,
01:05I just remember seeing him in the semifinals of college last year. And that guy can put the ball
01:11anywhere on the field, like every single blade of grass. He can let it fly. But I think the thing
01:17about him is the inexperience. And I think Dan Quinn and crew have to somehow take advantage of
01:23that. Yeah. Yeah. Heat him up a little bit. A B Mitch. I got into an argument on today's part
01:30of my take with, uh, with Max, our resident Eagles fan. Uh, we were talking about Marshawn
01:35Lattimore, right. And, uh, and talking about some of the, some of the penalties that he had
01:40against AJ Brown. And I was trying to tell Max that pass interference penalties as a
01:45quarterback. Yeah, they're bad, but ultimately it's not a great way to, to grade out how well
01:51you played as a defensive back, because ultimately it means that you were in position to make a play.
01:56If you were close enough to interfere with the guy, am I being a dummy by saying that,
02:00or is that for real? I don't think you're being a dummy. Uh, Richard Sherman basically said,
02:05but, um, a bunch of those interference call was straight BS. He called it some other stuff,
02:10but the second one was really bad. He was killing me. He said, you know, and he said,
02:15which come want to talk about how physically is, but soon as somebody touched him, he wants to
02:19cry and the referee bail them out all the time. So, you know, I think if you, if you got to let
02:24the receivers play physical, you have to let the corner next play the same way. I agree. I agree.
02:29A hundred percent. But so I don't think that we're going to have a lot of more this weekend,
02:31right? It doesn't look good, man. He hasn't practiced yet. And I mean, he's, it doesn't
02:37look good. I would say, uh, I just, I want to see us just air the ball out early. They got a bad
02:44defense. Let's let's put 14 points on the board of the first quarter. That's what I'm hoping for.
02:48So as an AWL PFT, I have thoroughly enjoyed you and max after these, uh,
02:57commander's Eagles games. But dude, I, I, I almost texted you this. I, um, I have a buddy
03:03that's from here that moved out to Chicago. Shout out to Jay rock, who has just been telling me how
03:07these bear fans bears fans are just melting down. How weird is it for you? Did you not watch the
03:13game last night? They show up one every, every two seconds. I get it. But how different does
03:18everything feel for you now to be living in Chicago and knowing that your organization is no
03:26longer like that one. Like they're just doing things right here in Washington and Washington
03:32for 25 years was in the same category as the jets and the Browns and the bears, just these
03:38teams that it was impossible to win. Now the sky's the limit, man. Yeah. I gotta be honest.
03:46It feels good. I got a little bit of guilt out here though, but I got to get over that guilt.
03:51I think the best way to do that is to fully embrace, uh, what happened against the bears
03:57when, uh, Jane threw that hail Mary. So I think I'm going to, I'm going to print up a giant poster,
04:02high def of Jane and throwing that hail Mary, uh, and ruining the bear season and install it
04:07in the part of my Jake studio. I think that's the only way to move on with this is just like
04:12confronted head on. Let's uh, let's just, let's make it an even bigger thing than it is. No,
04:16but it's, it's weird. I, I see what the bears fans are going through and I recognize all of it. Like
04:21this is, it's stuff that we've seen time and time again. Um, if you've been a fan of, of Washington
04:27for any period of time, you, you recognize all the stats. I mean, hell they might hire Ron Rivera.
04:32Like that's an actual conversation that they're having right now, dude. I was saying that a
04:36couple of years ago, I was like, I'm telling you, watch the bears 2025. It's the 40 year
04:42anniversary of the 85 bears. Ron gets that job. That's, that's such a bear's thing to do also,
04:48because they try to be, they try to pretend like they're a very classy organization.
04:52They have respect for history here. That's, you know, they say all these buzzwords,
04:56but ultimately what they mean is they want to hire somebody who's very safe and very boring,
05:01who won't stand up to the ownership group. And it would be like a nice bears things to have,
05:06you know, a member of the 85 bears here, a former defensive coordinator for the bears,
05:12a classy, strong willed guy like Ron come back. Like they don't really care about the product
05:17on the field. They just want to exude class. And Ron Rivera is that guy. If you want to hire him,
05:23one crazy thing I learned about the Caskey family, this, this to me is actually insane on game day.
05:30If you're in their suite, you're not allowed to wear anything with a bears logo on it.
05:34You're not allowed to wear anything with the word, just the word bears on it. You just have
05:39to dress up in like a suit. They don't, they think it's bizarre to wear the merchandise of
05:46the team that they own. But what if, what if the fans start telling them, okay, if it's beneath you,
05:50it's beneath us, that's a good point. I mean, if you can't wear the stuff that you're trying to
05:56sell me, hell I don't want to wear it. Yeah, no, that's a, that's a really good point. I do feel
06:01bad for, for bearish fans here. They'd be going through a lot, but ultimately I'm so, so glad that
06:07that they took Caleb Williams and we got Jaden. So thank you. Thank you to the bearish.
06:12Totally. And we were talking about it. And as the season has gone on,
06:16there have been like dumb, just content creation attempts when like people wanted to hype up Bo
06:22Nix and stuff. If you were to redraft this thing right now, it'd be Jaden at one by,
06:28by such a wide margin. I I'm not done with Caleb. I think he has so much natural talent
06:33that if somebody can like what Kevin O'Connell has done with Sam Darnold this year, if you get
06:39a quarterback with the natural talent of Caleb Williams to the right coach, the right situation,
06:44he can still be a player, but right now he's just so far from it, man.
06:48Yeah. Caleb, I think is still going to be a great quarterback one day. I don't get me wrong. Like,
06:53I think he is, he's very good. Nobody could succeed in the situation that he's in right
06:58now. I mean, he had a great touchdown pass last night that got called back. He threw like 30
07:03yards on a rope as he was blown out to his left, but he can still make these throws.
07:08But just everything around him is bad. And it's been sad watching him kind of just have,
07:13have to realize what he's gotten himself into in Chicago. It's, it's been a, a slow realization
07:18for him. I think day one of opening his eyes was that the Saturday night football game against
07:23Houston, where you just got beat up and sacked. And then, you know, over the season, it's like
07:29been slowly revealing the true nature of the job to him, but yeah, I'd have, I'd have Jaden one,
07:34but I had Jaden one, even before the draft, he was number one on my big board. I've Jaden one,
07:39I'd still, I think I would put Caleb too. And then Bonix three. And then, yeah, I guess it's,
07:47we don't know anything about Pennix yet. We do know about Spencer Rattler. I'd put them
07:53in the last minute of the game. Spencer Rattler might be one of the best quarterbacks out there,
07:57but yeah, I would still, I would have Jaden one. And I think I still believe enough in Caleb to
08:02put them to. Yeah. It's interesting. Talking with our friend, PFT comments are here. Of course you
08:06can hear PFT, watch PFT, the part of my take podcast, macro dosing. He does it all, you know,
08:13specific to Washington. What do you think, if anything, this one means that Dan Quinn gets a
08:18shot at Atlanta on Sunday night football. It's the first time he's going to face the Falcons where
08:25for better or worse for right or wrong 28 to three is kind of what's remembered most about his run
08:30in Atlanta. Yeah. I just like to remind people that Dan Quinn is a Superbowl winning head coach,
08:35meaning like he was winning the Superbowl in his career. So, so yeah, I think we made it up.
08:45It's very misleading, but you can get away with it. Speak fast enough. So I think what,
08:49I think what's going to happen this week is that Dan Quinn cares so much about his guys. Like he's
08:54obviously a coach that his players know that he loves them. Like you saw it happen. Even with
09:01Dallas, right? Like Michael Parsons was talking about how he still hears from Dan Quinn who checks
09:06in with him and just to see, make sure that he's doing okay after bad loss. Like the players love
09:11Dan Quinn. I actually think that the revenge is going to be like the players getting together
09:17and be like, we got to do this for Dan. Like, I think that's how much they care about him.
09:22So I would expect, you know, it's a playoff push it's prime time. You don't really need that much
09:28of a boost to it, but I think it might be, you know, it might be just a little bit
09:33more emotion right off the bat, especially from like Frankie, that guy, that guy is a,
09:38he's a glass case of emotion is what he is. He plays with such a great passion. And I think
09:43that if you can get even just like, you know, half a percent more juice out of some of these guys
09:49for kickoff, then I think, I think it's going to make a big difference. And I think that they'll
09:53do it for Dan. We'll do it. Definitely. One thing that I think you would appreciate, I think the
09:58crowds at the games have been awesome. And that's not to say that there haven't been away fans,
10:04you know, I mean, some of the stuff that's been going on for years is still there, but the people
10:08that are there are loud and fired up. And I think you're right. I think Sunday night we'll have
10:14serious, give them a lot to be loud about. Yeah. Do you like, you'll like this PFT. So last night,
10:21just with Christmas scheduling and stuff, I had a bunch of stuff I had to like, kind of tape
10:26at commander's park. And I didn't realize this, but I was like taping something. And I've been
10:32talking for like two minutes and Frankie Lou who was just standing behind me, walk into his truck,
10:37doing like the Rocky pose with his hands up in the air. And I was like, how long you been there,
10:42dude? They're talking to a bunch of those defensive players yesterday. They are fired
10:48up because I think the answer to a rookie quarterback is go get them. And I think they
10:53believe they're going to get that opportunity. Yeah. Just, just heat the guy up. I think you're
10:59probably right in that count. I was just looking forward to playing against Kirk cousins at the
11:03start of the year. I was not looking forward to playing Kirk cousins because I just, I didn't
11:07want him to ruin our season later on, but the way that he's been playing, I was like, please just
11:12let Kirk hold on for dear life. Like let Kirk throw one touchdown pass in some of these games.
11:16So he doesn't get benched. But yeah, that was, it was definitely the right call for the Falcons to
11:21go to Pennix. I think that lefty quarterbacks in general are witches be Mitch. I don't know
11:26if you've ever played with one, but it just looks weird. Yeah. They're witches. They're
11:31witches. They, it looks for college, a lefty quarterback looks awesome. But in the NFL,
11:37if you see a lefty throw the ball, like when I watched to a throw, I'm like, what's going on
11:41here? I don't want to get beaten by a lefty and, and Pennix does scare me a little bit,
11:46but really the thing that does scare me about the, the Falcons offense that we know is a
11:51Bijan Robinson. Yeah. So we did a good job shutting, shutting Barkley down in the second
11:57half. So maybe we're just going to go back to that and load up the box and see what they can do.
12:03I don't think it's the worst idea. Honestly, I think you go get Pennix, try to slow down
12:09Bijan and let the chips fall and you lean on your offense. Let Jayden do his thing. I mean,
12:16the plays he's been making the confidence he's been playing with, but I do think you want to
12:21get Washington's run game going again and B Rob putting two on the ground last week.
12:26That is so fluky and out outlier ish compared to his career. I'm here. I'm begging for the ball.
12:32Yeah. I will do. They gave him the ball late in that game and it went back to vital juncture. I
12:37think that was, was crucial, but it was kind of scary to see the two fumbles in the first,
12:41you know, 17 minutes of the game. Yeah. Does Dan Quinn have a dog house? I always love talking
12:46about, you know, coaches, dog houses. Cause some guys have a dog house where you're not getting
12:52out. I don't know that Dan Quinn has a dog house. The way he builds a team is based on trust and
12:58belief in one another. And he would eventually you get, you get too far down a bad road.
13:04There's always going to be repercussions, but he doesn't strike me, dude. I mean, after B Rob
13:08fumbled the second time, it was first and goal. It was first and 10 from like inside their own
13:12five yard line. And B Rob was the running back out there. They ended up not handing the ball off,
13:17but like they went right back to them. Yeah. Yeah. Like some guys like Belichick, if you
13:23slept in for a team meeting, it doesn't matter that you had four touchdowns the previous week.
13:27You weren't going to touch the ball for like a month. Some, some guys have big dog houses. I
13:32feel like Dan Quinn, you're right. He's like, I, I love and trust these guys. And then he saw,
13:37I saw Rob crying on the sidelines after his second fumble. Oh, he hated that.
13:41He hated, he hated the fact that he, he put his name in a bad position. Yeah. Yeah. And so I,
13:47I trust him to listen. If Dan trusts you, I trust I'm all on board.
13:51Um, yeah, it's funny. You remember Jonas gray with the Patriots. He scored three touchdowns,
13:57then missed the meeting and Belichick cut them. Yeah. Uh, I was reading. You got the touchdown,
14:05not you. So BFT, I was really excited when you were able to join us this week,
14:08cause I wanted to ask you something. Uh, talk with our friend PFT commenter.
14:12So earlier this week, I guess, kind of to promote that Sunday night football was, you know,
14:19the Washington organization, um, the official Sunday night football account, which is a
14:25huge account, like SNF on NBC has got a million and a half followers, whatever, right.
14:29They tweeted out which player deserves the top spot in commander's history. And obviously
14:36commander's history is two years old, but like, if you're talking about the entire organization
14:42and I'm going to say just for, just for the sake of argument, we can make it the modern era,
14:50like the Superbowl era so that we don't all have to try to defend Sammy boss,
14:55quarterbacking stats. Cause I'm sure he was great in that era.
14:57I was going to defend him as a punter, but like, what would your answer be to that question?
15:04Yeah, it's a good question. I think you have to, as, as a player, that's a little bit more
15:09difficult. Cause I think the answer to the organization is Joe Gibbs. Yeah. I think that's
15:15got to be it. But, but if I had to just take one of the guys off the field, I think I got to go
15:22Riggins. I mean, now Riggins was there for, they won one Superbowl with Rigo, but by far the most
15:31iconic play in team play. I don't know if it's the best player. Who would you say be? I had to
15:36go with the best player overall. It's hard to go against Darrell green play 20 years for your
15:42franchise. Uh, he's all a famer, you know, and off the field, the things he did and the hell
15:49with it. He was running fastest man. He was beating everybody. It's supposed to be fast in
15:52the league. That was supposedly track guys. I like that build of his hype as well, but
15:56little dude from Texas and I come in here and killed it. I got, I, I got to admit when I get
16:02one wrong and I get tested by the image, it rarely happens. I could still tackle him in the open
16:07field. Uh, but yeah, I'll let you get close to me in open field. Be rich. Was it, were you a house
16:13divided when we played the Eagles? No, you're like, ah, I don't know who to root for here.
16:16No, I was sitting right there working for the command on the side. A lot of people tell me,
16:23man, you know, you want to cheer for us. No, I don't. I think, I think two names to be considered.
16:30And one of them is not the best player. I think if it's straight best player, I think you're right.
16:35Be in, in Darrell, but I think you got to consider our monk. Reagan's got to be considered, but I
16:40think like PFT to your point about Gibbs, I think the embodiment of what the best Redskins teams
16:49were of that run from 80 to 93, whatever you want to call it is Jacoby. I mean, just that he was
16:56an undrafted guy that played on all those Superbowls on both sides of the line, moved
17:00around all the time, played in an elite level and not the best, but I, he's just part of the
17:05conversation to me. Yeah. I, I would, the hog era with, you know, Jacoby and grim, um, those two
17:11guys in particular, I, I think, uh, I think that that would be pretty good. I'm pumped to hear
17:16Carrie Underwood try to figure out how to weasel the word commanders into the Sunday. I hadn't
17:22thought about that, dude. It's a little bit, a little bit more difficult. I'm working that out
17:27so quick, man. I, she gets, she gets like a million dollars a week. I have a lot of people
17:34helping her believe it. She'll get that done. This, this may be a, uh, a disagreeable take here,
17:40but I still miss Faith Hill doing the song. I think Faith Hill got it done specifically.
17:47There's a specific scene. You know, Faith's legs are 10 out of 10. I miss Faith Hill's legs. I want
17:56the world to know. I have a lot of Lauren just heard that the work that Carrie Underwood puts
18:02in, in the squat rack, I think that let's not, let's not sleep on her. She looks like she,
18:07she's putting up like Saquon Jalen hurts like a hockey player. Yeah. Big, big, big fan of her too.
18:14I think they, they all do a great job. Uh, I'm excited for, you know what? I'm, I'm always going
18:19to be nervous for primetime games just because, you know, we've seen a lot in the last 25 years
18:24in primetime. It hasn't always been good, but I'm slowly getting more excited for it. I'm slowly
18:29starting to think, okay, primetime can be a good thing for us. It's going to take years
18:34of reconditioning, but, uh, so far I feel like I feel less nervous than I would have felt it.
18:42Well, I feel nervous, but it's a good nerves as opposed to in the past when I'd feel just
18:47a week of impending doom and dread going into a primetime game. So listen, we control our own
18:53destiny. We might need some help. Ironically from the bears and a week 17, if they can beat
18:59the Packers and we can go to an, Oh, then I think that would give us the, the succeed, right? And I,
19:04I'd rather, I guess on paper, I'd rather play the Rams than I would the Eagles.
19:08But in, in my weird world, I now have flipped that. I want the Eagles, the playoffs,
19:14because I want to see max suffer. I want the opportunity to take any sort of joy away from
19:21max and the city of Philadelphia. And that's the biggest change this year. I think is I'm
19:25actually starting to see from Eagles fans that they don't like us, that they care enough to
19:30not like us. And that's what, that's a good feeling. I agree with that. Well, dude, here's
19:36this other scenario that I try not to get too caught up in the, if this happens, that happens,
19:41blah, blah, blah. But Jalen hurts might miss Sunday's game for Philly against Dallas.
19:47And then you get to week 18. I think they closed with the giants, which you would think no matter
19:53who's quarterbacking, they can beat. Yeah. But the division doesn't seem like as closed of a
19:59door as it did before. Just if, if, if Hertz has to miss significant time here, it's not,
20:04it's not closed. I just think that week 17, Nick Sirianni is going to cause this kind of guy is,
20:11he is going to give the ball to say Kwan 40 times and try to get in the Russian record
20:17in the Meadowlands or at that life against the giants, his old team. I feel like that is just
20:22set up for, for Nick to do his, you know, very emotional style of coaching and, you know,
20:28maybe sometimes to his own team's detriment, try to try to get his guy to record there. Now,
20:35did he initiate a zoom call with Zach Hertz? Is that what happened? He, he had a, he,
20:39he sent him an email with a, with a zoom link and he was like, I want you to join
20:45this so I can apologize. I don't know why they wouldn't have just FaceTime.
20:49If you're apologizing, you did something wrong. So I'm going to put everything in Nick's lap.
20:54Yeah. I feel bad for big Dom at this point. I like big Dom, but big Dom, he's got his hands
20:59full with Nick. It's like every week it's something new with that guy. Uh, and I can't
21:04imagine that Zach Hertz was the one that initiated that entire disagreement. I'm going to, I'm going
21:08to believe that it was Sirianni mouthing off, but yeah, I just want to say for the record,
21:14big Dom is the only part of the Eagles that I actually like. I love that guy.
21:19Dom's been there since B player. That's my guy. Um, PFT. Thank you, brother. Happy holidays. Happy
21:25new year. And, uh, let's hope next time we talk to commanders are gearing up for playoff game.
21:29Let's get it. I can't wait. I can't wait. I hope it happens. I hope it happens this week.
21:34And, uh, yeah. Hail, hail. Thanks. PFT. Appreciate your time, bud.
