00:00Five hundred yards, that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile.
00:10Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the movie scenes fans have watched again and again.
00:17We won't be considering moments that are paused the most, as those have a list of their own.
00:22You've got no arms left!
00:23Yes, I have.
00:24Look!
00:25Just a flesh wound.
00:27Number 30, You Can't Handle the Truth, A Few Good Men.
00:32This military legal drama is gripping from start to finish, but this scene truly stands out.
00:38Tom Cruise's Lieutenant Jaffe questions Jack Nicholson's Colonel Jessup about an unsanctioned beating, or Code Red,
00:44carried out on Private William Santiago, which resulted in his death.
00:47Colonel Jessup, did you order the Code Red?
00:50Jaffe's intense questioning famously sees him demand the truth from Jessup.
00:54The Colonel's reply is among cinema's most famous movie quotes.
00:58I want the truth!
00:59You can't handle the truth!
01:01He goes on to deliver a villainous tirade, in which he alludes to the need for illegal acts to uphold the law.
01:07Jaffe's persistence even prompts Jessup to own up to ordering the beating.
01:11It is a phenomenal scene, with acting so impressive from Nicholson that we have to watch it repeatedly.
01:17I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide,
01:25and then questions the manner in which I provide it.
01:28I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way.
01:31Number 29, Infiltrating the Vault, Mission Impossible.
01:35Even people who haven't seen this scene have probably seen something referencing it.
01:39IMF agent Ethan Hunt has to recover a list of undercover agents from a secure computer at CIA headquarters.
01:47Ahem.
01:49Ahem.
01:51Ahem.
01:53Ahem.
01:55However, to do so, he needs to dangle from a pair of wires into a room with heat, sound, and pressure sensors.
02:01The scene is dripping with tension throughout, sometimes literally, as one wrong move could mean discovery.
02:17It's one of the most masterfully nail-biting suspense scenes out there.
02:21Resisting the urge to watch it again is a truly impossible mission.
02:28Number 28, Church Fight, Kingsman The Secret Service.
02:32This scene tends to end up on our lists a lot.
02:35Probably because it's amazing.
02:37Kingsman agent Harry Hart ends up in the church of a religious hate group while investigating villain Richmond Valentine.
02:43I didn't expect it to be that effective.
02:45What kind of response are we talking about?
02:47A hundred percent.
02:49Valentine uses the occasion to test out a frequency in everyone's phones which turns everyone there hyper-violent, including Harry.
02:57The ensuing action scene is filmed in several continuous takes that see Harry mowing through the churchgoers with gadgets,
03:03guns, and any other improvised weapon he can lay to hand.
03:06And we get the added benefit of wiping out the kingdom.
03:09Not yet.
03:10Rewatching this scene is practically essential if only to catch all the little details in the action.
03:15Oh, and it's an excuse to rock out to Freebird.
03:18Not that you need one, of course.
03:26Number 27, Dance Off, Triple R.
03:29This Indian historical buddy action movie has many incredible scenes, but none of them blew up like this one.
03:35The two lead characters, Aluri Sitaramaraju and Komuram Bheem, attend a fancy party where a snobby Englishman ridicules Bheem through dance.
03:43Every damn wanker thinks he can dance.
03:46What do you think of yourself, huh?
03:48You country oaf.
03:50However, Ram steps in to defend his bro, launching into a dance number where he is soon joined by Bheem and eventually the rest of the guests.
03:58Quite apart from having a toe-tappingly catchy song, the dance itself is phenomenal.
04:06I've had enough of this nonsense! You two, out!
04:10The choreography is incredible and has to be seen multiple times to be believed.
04:15Ram throws the contest to help Bheem, but the competition to see who can view this scene the most is still ongoing and has hundreds of millions of players.
04:30Number 26, The Black Knight, Monty Python.
04:33An all-time classic British comedy, Monty Python and the Holy Grail has more rewatchable moments than you can shake a coconut at.
04:40And yet, it's this scene that arguably keeps us coming back the most.
04:55King Arthur stumbles across a lone knight in black guarding a small bridge.
05:00When the knight refuses to move, Arthur engages him in battle.
05:03After cutting off one of his arms, Arthur believes he's won.
05:06However, the Black Knight is not finished.
05:09In fact, even losing several more of his limbs doesn't deter him.
05:22The cartoonish violence and back and forth between the knight and Arthur is comedic gold.
05:27Call us a loony for loving it, but we cannot stop rewatching this scene.
05:43Number 25, Bank Robbery Shootout, Heat.
05:46Like the film itself, this sequence is straight fire.
05:50Neil Macaulay and his gang have just robbed a bank and believe they've gotten away clean.
05:54However, the police are waiting for them and a gun battle soon erupts on the streets of Los Angeles.
06:04What follows is one of the most visceral and suspenseful shootouts in movie history.
06:08There's no music. The gunshots aren't muffled.
06:12It's uncomfortably realistic yet powerfully magnetic.
06:24Most of Macaulay's men and many policemen and bystanders are killed.
06:28As terrifying as this would be to experience in real life, it is a scene we can't help but be gripped by.
06:45Number 24, The Crazy 88, Kill Bill Vol. 1.
06:49Quentin Tarantino movies have no shortage of rewatchable scenes.
06:53Our pick for the most rewatched one goes to The Bride's battle against the Yakuza bodyguards, The Crazy 88.
06:59The Bride faces dozens of gang members in a tea house.
07:02The wirework style and over-the-top gore pay tribute to martial arts films of the past.
07:14But it also feels distinctly Tarantino with touches like the eclectic soundtrack
07:19and what can only be described as breakdancing with katanas.
07:22It's filmed brilliantly too, alternating between color and black and white
07:26while also featuring an entire section filmed with silhouettes against blue light.
07:36This fight is nearly 10 minutes of non-stop bloody action
07:39and we have a rip-roaring good time every time we watch it.
07:47Number 23, Andy's Escape, The Shawshank Redemption.
07:51Prisoner Andy Dufresne looks to be at his lowest point.
07:54Yet when the audience is expecting him to be dead in his cell, he is nowhere to be found.
07:59Instead, the warden's angry tantrum exposes that Andy escaped his cell
08:03by chiseling through a hole hidden behind a poster.
08:17Morgan Freeman's iconic narration takes us through Andy's entire escape process,
08:20which takes years.
08:29Andy's escape through a sewage pipe may make us gag at the thought,
08:32but when he raises his hands in triumph as the thunder and lightning crash
08:36and the music swells, we can't help but cheer him on every time we rewatch.
08:51Number 22, Opening Adventure, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
08:55The beginning of the Indiana Jones series sees the titular character
08:58in search of a golden idol in Peru.
09:00Andy must overcome deadly traps, creepy animals,
09:03and treachery from his guide to recover the prized artifact.
09:11Practically every part of this opening scene is iconic.
09:14Each one of the traps, from the spikes to the darts to the giant boulder,
09:18have all become staples of pop culture.
09:20And that shot of him switching the idol lives in our heads rent-free.
09:31It is beautifully filmed, funny, and exciting.
09:35Andy's first adventure is pulpy action distilled to its very essence,
09:39and we cannot get enough of it.
09:41This scene belongs in a museum it's that good.
09:49And you thought I'd given up.
09:51Number 21, Ride of the Rohirrim, The Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King.
09:56The Lord of the Rings films are loaded with rewatchable scenes,
10:00but this is one fans return to again and again.
10:03Just as things look their darkest during the Siege of Gondor,
10:06horns sound in the distance.
10:08The cavalry has arrived.
10:11The Riders of Rohan crest the hill
10:13and see the massive orc army surrounding the city before them.
10:16King Theoden delivers an epic speech that is somehow both grim and uplifting,
10:20rattling his men's spears as he goes.
10:41And then, they all charge,
10:43screaming death at the top of their lungs.
10:46The music, incredible scope,
10:48performances, and effects all culminate in a legendary scene
10:51that gives us chills every time we see it.
11:11Oh, man.
11:16Number 20, Jack's Death, Titanic.
11:19Given how much the movie made at the box office,
11:22it's probably fair to say that Titanic is one of the most rewatched movies of all time,
11:26regardless of specific scenes.
11:28But when it does come to specific scenes,
11:30that one at the end with Leonardo DiCaprio hanging on to the door
11:33has got to be one of them.
11:36Stay on it. Stay on, Rose.
11:38Jack.
11:39And, sure, there are many of us who'll rewatch it
11:41for the emotional impact of Jack giving his life to save Rose.
11:45But if we're being honest,
11:47most of us have gone back to that scene
11:49in order to determine if we think both parties
11:51could have survived on the floating piece of wreckage.
11:53Number 19, Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend,
11:56Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
11:59While there may be some debate
12:01as to whether gentlemen really prefer blondes or not,
12:04there's no question that gentlemen prefer Marilyn Monroe.
12:07One of the greatest movie stars of all time,
12:10Monroe continues to be a cultural phenomenon today,
12:13over six decades since her passing.
12:15One of her most iconic movie moments,
12:17along with the subway great scene in The Seven-Year Itch,
12:20is her rendition of Marilyn Monroe's famous line,
12:23Madonna seemed to think so too
12:25and even paid homage to the scene
12:27in her 1985 video for her song, Material Girl.
12:30in the 1953 film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
12:33♪ Diamonds are a girl's best, best friend. ♪
12:47Madonna seemed to think so too, and even paid homage to the scene in her 1985 video for
12:52her song, Material Girl.
12:53♪ And I am a material girl. You know that we are living in a material world. And I am a material girl. ♪
13:03Number 18, Jimmy Buffett, Jurassic World.
13:07When Jurassic World came out in 2015, those of us who miss the franchise so dearly were
13:12excited to have it back in our lives.
13:14Jurassic World exists to remind us how very small we are, how new.
13:19You can't put a price on that. Now please, we are flying.
13:23But this excitement is what likely made most of us miss some of the small details and easter
13:27eggs when they came across the screen.
13:29Or in this case, ran across the screen holding a couple of margaritas.
13:33In the years since the film's release, we'll admit to returning frequently enough to watch
13:38the Main Street Dino Attack just to see if the cocktail guy is in fact Jimmy Buffett.
13:46And just in case you haven't already gotten confirmation, it is indeed.
13:51Number 17, Oh Captain, My Captain, Dead Poets Society.
13:55As one of the great comedic geniuses of his generation, there are plenty of moments from
13:59Robin Williams' career we can turn to if we need a good laugh.
14:02I had to stop drinking alcohol because I used to wake up nude and go to my car with my keys in my ass.
14:08Not a good thing.
14:11Hi, can I help you?
14:12No thanks, it's just flooded. I'll be okay.
14:15But Williams proved throughout his career that he could also make us cry.
14:19One of his first forays into drama was the great 1989 film Dead Poets Society, where
14:23he played the enthusiastic and unconventional English teacher John Keating.
14:28Who saw that film and didn't come out of it wishing they had a teacher like Keating?
14:31We're going to talk about Shakespeare as someone who writes something very interesting.
14:35Now many of you have seen Shakespeare done very much like this.
14:39Oh Titus, bring your friend hither.
14:42Williams' ability to make us care so deeply for his character was what made that final
14:46scene that much more powerful.
14:48When those students get up on their desks and declare, oh captain, my captain, we're
14:52tearing up already.
14:53This is your final warning, Anderson.
14:57How dare you?
14:59Do you hear me?
15:01Oh captain, my captain.
15:04Number 16, Anti-Gravity Fighting, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
15:15While the wuxia genre of martial arts film has a long history in China,
15:19North American audiences in the year 2000 had never really seen anything like Crouching
15:23Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
15:25Instead of big explosions and bloody fistfights, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a ballet
15:29of beautifully choreographed anti-gravitational action.
15:33Two of the most notable scenes are the nighttime rooftop chase and the amazing battle above
15:37the bamboo forest.
15:39The wirework movement was and still is eminently rewatchable and was highly influential on
15:45the next generation of action movies.
15:51Number 15, Heather's Terrified Close-Up, The Blair Witch Project.
15:56It might seem hard to believe these days, but back in 1999 when The Blair Witch Project
16:00was released, many thought the movie was made with actual found footage.
16:04The promotion around the film when it premiered listed the actors as missing or deceased,
16:09and the heavy internet marketing was highlighted by one very memorable scene.
16:24Heather's terrified and teary-eyed close-up was the key to the entire film.
16:28The internet and trailer-watching audience needed to buy into it for the movie to succeed,
16:33and boy did it ever.
16:35As much as this scene was rewatched following the film's release, it was probably rewatched
16:39just as much online leading up to the movie being in theaters.
16:51One of the most influential horror films of all time, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho has
16:56many memorable moments, with maybe the most obvious being the shower scene.
17:03That is a moment that's been rewatched for decades by not only fans, but filmmakers and
17:08film historians analyzing and breaking down every edited angle of the iconic scene.
17:13And then there's the moment at the end of the movie just as the scene fades from
17:17Norman Bates at the police station to Marion's car being pulled out of the swamp.
17:21Look closely and you'll see the image of a skull overlaid on Bates' face during
17:25the transition.
17:39If you haven't rewatched this one yet, you probably will now.
17:46The cue card scene from Love Actually is easily one of the most rewatched movie scenes ever.
17:52But what's interesting about it is the evolution of its rewatchability.
18:00Originally, it was generally referenced as one of the most romantic moments in a movie
18:04packed to the brim with romance.
18:06Mark's declaration of love for Juliet, his best friend's wife,
18:10was a guy putting himself out there and willing to get hurt for love.
18:22However, in the last decade or so, the prevailing view of the scene has changed,
18:36with many pointing out that Mark is a bad friend,
18:39not to mention the borderline stalker vibes of it all.
18:42Still, whether you like Raj see it as the height of romance or want to cancel it,
18:46we're all still rewatching it.
18:53Spoiler alert, the movie came out in 1995, but if somehow you've managed to avoid knowing
18:57the ending of the usual suspects for almost 30 years now, you might want to skip this one.
19:02And go watch the movie.
19:14Okay, now can the rest of us talk about how awesome that twist was?
19:17Along with the revelation of Roger Verbal-Kint comes with the reveal of all the random items
19:22around the LAPD office that he used when crafting his story and the characters therein.
19:27The first time you see it, it's amazing, but it also begs to be rewatched with
19:31eyes wide open in an effort to even better connect all the dots.
19:34He mentioned Kaiser Soze.
19:36Who?
19:38After that, my guess is you'll never hear from him again.
19:45Is Leonardo DiCaprio's character in the real world or in a dream at the end of Inception?
19:57Well, the only way to know for sure is to see if that spinning top stops
20:00or continues to spin indefinitely.
20:03But the problem is the movie cuts out before we can see it fall or not.
20:07Or does it?
20:13Given the importance of that moment, many have gone back and watched and rewatched
20:17those final seconds in an effort to determine the top's fate.
20:20Is it leaning just a little as if about to hit the table?
20:24There are those who swear this is the case, while others are not as convinced.
20:29Guess we'll have to watch it again.
20:33The Avengers spend most of Endgame assembling the Infinity Stones to bring their friends back.
20:40Right as they do so, however, Thanos attacks them and sets off a brawl
20:44involving numerous fighters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
20:59The returning heroes provide a lot of blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearances.
21:03Along with a satisfying Assemble battle cry.
21:14Captain Marvel's entrance is also spectacularly explosive.
21:17And her fistfight with Thanos has some gasp-inducing hits too.
21:20Though Iron Man and Captain America had a much more emotionally charged bout in Captain America Civil War,
21:25shots like Cap lifting Thor's hammer left us even more amazed.
21:29Plus, the excessive amounts of jokes and Easter eggs in this scene
21:32require multiple views just to catch them all.
21:52An evil crime lord sends his goons into a mall to attack Selina.
21:56So, Jackie Chan's character, Kakui, runs in to save her.
22:00To shoot this scene, Chan has to free run through stores
22:03and across multiple levels to chase the bad guys down.
22:11But, when he suddenly has to get from the top floor to the ground,
22:14Jackie leaps onto a pole to slide all the way down.
22:18The mesmerizing drop plays out in one take,
22:20as you watch Chan crash through dozens of light bulbs.
22:24It's the stunt's insane danger factor, however, that has us replaying it so much.
22:28And, considering Jackie Chan's burns and injuries from the shoot,
22:31it only seems fair that this fall plays three times in the movie itself.
22:368. Satellite Drop, Cloverfield
22:52After a monster terrorizes New York City,
22:54Cloverfield shows us footage from long before the attack.
22:58As our hero Rob enjoys a date at Coney Island,
23:00a mysterious black dot zooms to the water in time with a digital beep.
23:06I had a good day.
23:08Though it requires repeat viewings to properly spot this quick Easter egg,
23:12fans developed theories that it was a satellite.
23:14J.J. Abrams actually confirmed this idea,
23:17as part of a tie-in with the movie's viral marketing campaign.
23:20However, Abrams also left the door open for the theory
23:23that the dot was potentially the escape pod from the end of the Cloverfield Paradox.
23:27J.J. Abrams and his fans have inadvertently encouraged even more replays of the shot too,
23:32thanks to the arguments they've built around it.
23:357. Pop Culture Extravaganza, Ready Player One
23:47In an effort to stop innovative online industries
23:50from taking over the virtual reality world of Oasis,
23:52Parzival leads an army of players to stop them.
23:56Burst to the key!
23:58Burst to the key!
24:00Burst to the key! Burst to the key!
24:02Since players customize their avatars after other famous icons,
24:06their fight has more iconic pop culture characters than you can spot in one try.
24:11While fighters from Overwatch and Halo appear right in front of the camera,
24:14it's easy to miss Battletoads, Gremlins and even He-Man in the chaos.
24:19The fast camera movements and wide shots make it hard to notice the likes of Sonic
24:22or the mech from Aliens too.
24:24And despite plenty of overt Terminator and Child's Play references,
24:28the scene is also subtle enough to warrant dozens of re-watches.
24:366. The Closing Whisper, Lost in Translation
24:44Charlotte and Bob's overlapping trips to Japan
24:47spark a magical friendship that helps them both enjoy themselves.
24:50As he gets ready to head back to America however,
24:53Bob chases after Charlotte to say a proper goodbye.
24:55After a tear-jerking hug, he mumbles into her ear.
25:02Since only their okays can be heard among the street noise,
25:05the whisper teases viewers to rewind the scene over and over.
25:09Some fans actually play with the movie's audio to try and hear it too.
25:12Though people have different ideas of what's said,
25:15director Sofia Coppola insists it's only meant for Bob and Charlotte to know.
25:19Nevertheless, this quiet farewell still has fans perplexed to this day.
25:285. Head Explosion, Scanners
25:35Leave it to David Cronenberg to shock and fascinate audiences at the same time.
25:39In his supernatural thriller,
25:41a company named ConSec is demonstrating their new psychic scanner agents with a live mind-reading.
25:46Surprisingly, the volunteer is actually a much stronger scanner
25:49who gives the presenter a fatal headache.
25:57The brutal carnage of the effect looks so real
25:59that you have to see it a few times to be sure it's fake.
26:02Plus, the blast and music cap off the scene so intensely
26:05that you'll likely go back again just to appreciate
26:08how amazingly this violent moment plays out.
26:104. Lobby Shootout, The Matrix
26:23The digital world of The Matrix is meant to trap humans,
26:26so Morpheus is kidnapped when he tries to fight against it.
26:29As Neo and Trinity head into a building to save him,
26:32they send the whole ground floor into a flurry of bullets and gymnastics.
26:35The flips and kicks are stunning to watch,
26:38especially the debris flying around everyone.
26:40Shit!
26:45The propellerhead song Spy Break truly amps up the energy as well.
26:48Neo's backbending dodges are certainly visually striking,
26:52but the clever blend of film speeds enhances the action more.
26:55The slow motion also means you won't miss much in the scene,
26:58but it's such a high-octane moment that you'll want to rewatch it anyway.
27:063. Pool Fantasy, Fast Times at Ridgemont High
27:10Oh no, you have company.
27:12It's just Mark and Mike from school.
27:15Brad's last year at Ridgemont High School sees him losing his job
27:18and girlfriend just when things are looking good.
27:21He does, however, get obsessed with Linda
27:23when he catches swimming in a bikini one fateful day at his house.
27:26Brad's mind wanders in spectacular fashion
27:29as he imagines her coming out of the water like a supermodel.
27:32You know how cute I always thought you were.
27:36The over-the-top posing from actress Phoebe Cates
27:39and some mist enhance the sexual fantasy aspect of this dream,
27:42appealing to viewers just as much as Brad.
27:45While the lesbian pool scene in Wild Things is progressive and steamy,
27:49Fast Times ups the ante with a bikini drop.
27:51And frankly, it's difficult not to revisit Cates' slow motion strutting
27:55thanks to the sensual filmmaking behind it.
28:022. Truck Chase, Terminator 2, Judgment Day
28:06The second time an evil Terminator comes to kill John Connor,
28:09we find out there's also a friendly Terminator trying to save him.
28:12But when the malevolent robot hunts John down in a truck,
28:15our young hero drives into a flood control channel just to escape it.
28:23The machine doesn't hesitate, however,
28:25and drops right down to ram John's bike.
28:28The scene is packed with unbelievable moments to enrich repeat viewings,
28:32especially the massive jumps into the channel.
28:34Arnold Schwarzenegger's gun flipping and the explosive finale
28:38add some badass imagery to the moment as well.
28:40With the tense music tying all these awesome moments together,
28:43there are a lot of reasons to take in this chase again and again.

29:28One soldier's hilarious blunder happens just fast enough to miss at first.
29:36Second viewing, on the other hand, shows the hit,
29:38and the actor comically fixing his mask as well.
29:41Director George Lucas even nods to the blooper in the re-release of the film
29:45by giving the hit a loud sound effect.
29:47With the charm that this goof adds to the movie,
29:49it's no wonder that fans still re-watch this hilarious cinematic accident.
