00:00As part of the preparation of the Bureau of Fire Protection that is already code red for the New Year greetings, we will talk to Fire Senior Superintendent Annalie Carbajal-Aquianza,
00:09Chief of the Public Information Service of the BFP. Good morning and welcome to Balitang Hali.
00:16Good morning sir, to you and to everyone who is following our program.
00:20How is the preparation of the BFP for the New Year greetings? What does it mean when you are code red?
00:26Code red meaning red alert status for the entire force of the Bureau of Fire Protection.
00:32No one is on leave and everyone is on duty.
00:36We need to respond to whatever is needed.
00:39While we are also currently conducting a public address to remind our community to avoid fire.
00:50So you are on the move now. Based on your monitoring, are there more incidents of fire this December compared to December 2023?
00:59Now, we are at 800 per incident compared to last year which was at 1,204.
01:07So in this number, we are low now. Although we are low, we still have incidents.
01:14That is why we are still encouraging our community, especially that it is just a few days since the celebration of our New Year.
01:21What is the primary reason for the fire and is the majority residential?
01:27Yes, that's right. The majority is still residential.
01:30And our purpose is electrical ignition caused by arcing.
01:36Meaning, this is still related to our lines of electricity in our homes.
01:43This is the New Year. What should we do in case of fire or arcing in order to avoid fire?
01:51As much as possible, we should not arce, especially in residential areas.
01:57That is the standing order of the DILG.
02:00Our local government units are requesting to pass an ordinance that totally prohibits the use of firecrackers in residential areas.
02:11Instead, they should join designated firework display areas where there are concerts, festivities, and countdowns.
02:23And if they want to witness a firework display, it is safer there because the firetruck of the Bureau of Fire Protection is there.
02:31How can you ensure that you will respond quickly to your fellow firefighters in case of arcing in 2025?
02:39Because there are street parties everywhere.
02:43Yes. Of course, this is related to the call of our community.
02:48So as much as possible, if they can call on their own, it is much better so that it will not arce.
02:56And while they are doing that, they should call 911 or the nearest fire station in their area.
03:04Will the firemen also perform pre-procession in places where there is usually a fire at times like this?
03:13Yes. That is included in our request while we are asking for a public address.
03:19In crowded places, congested areas, terminals, or even in places where we are often challenged that the fire lane is narrow.
03:32So the community should be aware that there is a firetruck ready to respond at any time.
03:38Maybe you will call on our fellow firefighters so that we will be on alert. It is up to you.
03:45Yes. In the name of our officer in charge, Chief Superintendent Jesus Fernandez and the entire DFP,
03:52we are wishing you a Merry Christmas and a safe new year.
03:59We hope that we will use alternatives, torotos, videotapes, and we hope that we will not fire on our firetrucks,
04:10especially if we have children and senior citizens with us.
04:14And if ever we need to call again, they should dial 911 before we vlog or video call.
04:23Okay. That's a good reminder. Before taking a selfie, call the BFP first. Thank you very much.
04:30Thank you very much. Take care, everyone.
04:32Fire Senior Superintendent Annalie Carbajal and the BFP.
