00:00This year is all about the martini. I mean, every year is all about the martini, but this year especially.
00:04It's been the number one cocktail, so grabbing a little bit of Silent Pool.
00:08We've just fully become available in the U.S., and I love sharing with two parts of intricately layered English Silent Pool gin.
00:21A lovely spritz of orange oil.
00:26Lots and lots and lots of ice.
00:30So the martini is such a quintessentially American cocktail.
00:39I love sharing it with family and friends, and it's really, really easy to do a great one at home.
00:44It's just all about having the highest quality of ingredients.
00:48There's nothing to hide behind in a martini.
00:50Where do you fall down? Are you a shaker or not? What are you?
00:54Ideally, a little bit of both.
00:56But for Silent Pool gin, I love stirred, nice, cold, crispy.
01:02Shaking adds a little bit too much oxygen for me.
01:04I like my martinis silky and smooth.
01:07You never really know what's going on in the glass.
01:10So what are the ingredients in this trendy drink?
01:13Absolutely. So Silent Pool gin is distilled with 24 English botanicals.
01:18There's already so many rich flavors, linden, elderflower, organic, hyperlocal honey.
01:23We really like to highlight those, dilute it with a little crisp cold water and a twist of orange peel.
01:29A little bit extra. That oil kind of brightens up and clings to the palate.
01:36So what makes this drink trendy at this time?
01:41It's interesting to see. I mean, the martini has really grown a lot over the past couple of years.
01:46I think people have a lot more interest in making cocktails at home and want something delicious yet accessible.
01:51There's also the new nostalgia of a cocktail that really represents turn-of-the-century America.
01:58We all think of the 1950s and 60s and their giant martini pitchers.
02:03And we're kind of finding a way to take those classic drinks and make them our own.
02:08Would you care to do the honors?
02:10I might.
02:11Cheers.
02:17Strong, but good.
02:20It's one of my favorites to start a cocktail hour during friends gatherings or family gatherings.
02:28Get everybody feeling a little bit comfortable.
02:30And with so many botanicals, it really pairs nicely with a variety of foods.
02:34I love a martini with a charcuterie board, cheese, some meat, fresh fruit, or even more savory elements like sage and ingredients and stuffing.
02:46Alright, take us to a classic holiday drink.
02:53Ooh, classic holiday drink? You gotta go cranberry.
02:56I mean, people talk about the pumpkin spice and the gingerbread. It's always been cranberry for me.
03:01So we wanted to stick in the martini realm and do something a little bit more fun and light.
03:07Again, two parts of English silent pool gin.
03:15Distilling with the honey is kind of our secret. It's what gives it that really rich, beautiful pour.
03:20And then one part of a spiced cranberry syrup.
03:24It sounds so fancy, but I just use cranberry juice, brown sugar, and a couple cinnamon sticks and peppercorns.
03:32And then fresh lime juice.
03:37And here's going to come your opportunity for that shake and drink.
03:46I said we'd do both. It seems only fair.
03:51What's your go-to drink that's easy to make?
03:57Oh, absolutely. I love these martini variations because you don't have to have 15 ingredients.
04:03There's nothing worse than falling in love with a cocktail at a great bar.
04:07And the bartender is so nice and they give you the recipe and you have this whole list.
04:11You have to go to the grocery store and buy 16 things and you're hunting down.
04:15We like to keep it fun and light.
04:17Things you would have in your cabinet.
04:19You'd be shocked how many amazing cocktail ingredients you already have at home.
04:23Honey, maple syrup, the last little bit of jam in the jam jar.
04:27All of these can be incredible additions, especially if you start with a base spirit that is handcrafted,
04:34that is sustainably and ethically made.
04:36It really, really makes a difference.
04:38And, you know, it's the holidays. We have to church it up a little bit.
04:44A little skewer of cranberries.
04:46Fancy.
04:47I think so.
04:48All right. Cheers.
04:50This is a spill to the rim.
04:52I know. You deserve it.
04:58That has a refreshing...
05:01That's the kind of drink that you'd be like, oh, there's no alcohol in it.
05:06And next thing you know, you're underneath the table after three of those.
05:09I couldn't speak to that.
05:11I exclusively enjoy cranberries responsibly.
05:21All right, let's talk about this Silent Pool Gin Holiday Party.
05:25What will you be serving at that party?
05:27Oh, my gosh.
05:28I feel like I always get put in charge of making cocktails,
05:31and I love teaching other people, too, so they can enjoy.
05:34But we distill with mandarin and lime and fresh English pear.
05:39So I do love a pear almond tart for dessert with a lovely Silent Pool cocktail.
05:45Are you going to make it for us?
05:47Yeah, it seems only fair.
05:48I wish I had an oven with a full tart.
05:50That sounds amazing.
05:51We're going to go in the other direction.
05:53So as much as I enjoy a pear tart, I've been trying to ease off the sweets.
05:57So we're going to go with a more savory cocktail to finish.
06:00If the martini was really classic and the spiced cranberry martini was a little fun and refreshing,
06:08we're going to go in a savory direction, something that really pairs well with all of those courses
06:13and brings out the coriander, Timor pepper, and cassia bark in Silent Pool.
06:23So what do we got here, two parts gin?
06:25Yeah, two parts of the Silent Pool gin.
06:27We're going to go with another spritz of orange oil.
06:38See, this is dangerous.
06:39You're going to be in charge of making cocktails from now on.
06:44I always tell people they can't afford my hourly rate.
06:47My mom never likes that joke.
06:53The Dirty Martini
07:03The Dirty Martini has been really, really, really trendy this year.
07:07But I'm not a huge olive person, so I like a Gibson.
07:11It's kind of hitting some of those notes of a Dirty Martini.
07:14You have the brininess, you have the dilution, but a little delicate cocktail onion in place.
07:19Wow, an onion rather than an olive.
07:22Yeah, it hits that salty note, a little bit more savory, a little touch more sweet.
07:26And then for the holidays, I waft a little rosemary over it and make a beautiful rosemary wreath.
07:41Well, by like 10 o'clock, nobody notices the wreath.
07:44But it's fun for cocktail parties.
07:46You have a little tray coming out.
07:48It has that beautiful aroma.
07:50Martha Stewart could never.
07:52I'm going to get in trouble for saying that.
07:54Martha Stewart could definitely.
