00:00Thank you, Ia.
00:01It's just in time for the ninong and ninang who are looking for crunchy money for Ginaldo,
00:06the new polymer coins issued by Banco Central.
00:10When and where can they get it?
00:12Let's find out in Mani Zubalig's coverage.
00:16Some were able to ask what they want to receive this Christmas.
00:19Cash or money is the answer of some.
00:21That's why it's just in time that Banco Central of the Philippines
00:26BSP recently presented to President Bombo Marcos
00:30the 500 pesos, 100 pesos and 50 pesos polymer banknotes.
00:35The first Philippine polymer banknote series is smarter, cleaner and stronger.
00:43Smarter because they have advanced anti-counterfeiting features
00:48and a smaller carbon footprint.
00:52Cleaner because viruses and bacteria do not survive on polymer
00:57as long as they do on paper.
01:00And stronger because they last longer than their paper counterparts.
01:05The pandemic reminded us of just how important hygiene is in our daily lives.
01:11Cash which passes through countless hands every day
01:15can carry germs, bacteria and even viruses.
01:18And if they do get dirty, you can easily wipe them off with a damp cloth
01:23without any damage to the banknote whatsoever.
01:26Another key advantage is security.
01:29Their advanced security features make it more difficult to replicate.
01:33It can now be obtained from banks and used from December 23
01:37but first limited to the Greater Manila area.
01:39Starting in January, it is expected to circulate throughout the country.
01:43This is what the new polymer banknotes look like
01:46and what we will see in circulation starting next week.
01:50Aside from Php 1,000 for the Philippine Eagle,
01:54Php 500 for the Visayan Spotted Deer,
01:59Php 100 for the Palawan Peacock Pheasant
02:03and Php 50 for the Visayan Leopard Cat.
02:06Beyond featuring our biodiversity, these notes honor the everyday culture
02:11that we live and that we see around us.
02:14The intricate weave patterns carry the stories of families, communities and generations
02:20who have kept these traditions alive through their hands and hard work.
02:25But even if there is a change in money, old paper notes can still be used.
02:29But since they are more durable, polymer banknotes are said to be more practical.
02:33Polymer banknotes can last up to seven and a half years, five times longer.
02:37And that means that we no longer need to replace them as often,
02:41saving money, cutting down on waste,
02:44and making a meaningful contribution to protecting the environment.
02:53For GMI Integrated News, I'm Maris Umali for 24 Hours.
