00:00Collegiate powerlifters will now take center stage as the sport powerlifting is finally included in the centennial season of National Collegiate Athletic Association or NCAA.
00:11Here's the report from Jamaica, Bayaka.
00:16The former president of Powerlifting Association of the Philippines, Eddie Torres, welcomes the historic inclusion of powerlifting in the 100th celebration of the NCAA.
00:27The Powerlifting Association of the Philippines has been conducting inter-school competitions across the country for over 20 years and this serves a major milestone for the powerlifting community.
00:40The PAP initially targeted to hold a competition this month but it's been rescheduled to March next year with an expected participation of 20 schools.
00:49In an interview with PTV Sports, the AP former official, Eddie Torres, said that if the competition next year in NCAA turns out well, it's not impossible for powerlifting to become a regular and demo sport in the UAAP.
01:19As a result, maybe we can consider powerlifting for the next step to become a demo sport towards our ultimate goal of becoming a regular. And who knows, if we pass in the NCAA, maybe UAAP won't be far behind.
01:37Although the event has been postponed for a few months, Torres also shared what Filipino powerlifters should look forward to on the day of the competition.
01:46NCAA powerlifting, we will have a lot of world-class and Asian-class lifters, plus up-and-coming. Some of them might pull upsets over some of the international lifters. So, we will see. I'm expecting some surprise performances by the lifters.
02:12Jamaica Manaka, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
