00:00Hello everyone, I am delighted to see you again for a new edition of the Grand Journal
00:20Media Morning.
00:21Here are the headlines.
00:22In Syria, the head of the coalition has deemed necessary a lifting of international sanctions
00:30aimed at Damascus for the return of refugees displaced by more than 13 years of conflict
00:35in the face of the challenge of unifying the country.

00:42Israeli officials arrived on Monday in Doha for discussions aimed at a ceasefire in Gaza
00:52and an exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas.
00:58And in the CAF Awards 2024, Ademola Lukman won the African Ballon d'Or, Moroccan Dohal
01:08Medeni won the trophy of the best young African player, while Bouchra Karboubi was elected
01:15referee of the year.
01:17More details in this newspaper.
01:19The head of the coalition, who took power in Syria, has deemed necessary a lifting of
01:29international sanctions aimed at Damascus for the return of refugees displaced by more
01:34than 13 years of conflict.
01:35During an interview with a delegation of British diplomats, Abu Mohammed al-Joulani
01:40mentioned the importance of restoring relations with London in the face of the challenge of
01:46unifying a country ravaged by 13 years of war.
01:48The head of the coalition has committed to dissolving in the army the factions that contributed
01:55to the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
01:58The fighting groups will be dissolved and their fighters prepared to join the ranks
02:03of the Ministry of Defence and all will be subject to the law, said al-Joulani.
02:09The new authorities aim to reassure foreign capitals, which are gradually making contact
02:15with their leaders.
02:16After the United Kingdom, France is thus sending a diplomatic mission to Damascus this Tuesday,
02:23the first in 12 years.
02:28Following the Israeli decision to double the Golan population, the reactions follow.
02:36Several countries qualify this decision as sabotage of opportunities to restore peace
02:42in the region.
02:43Chema Fekri.
02:46A few hours after the fall on December 8 of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the Israeli
02:52Benyamin Netanyahu had ordered the army to seize the Golan area controlled by the UN.
03:23Saudi Arabia has condemned the Israeli government's plan, denouncing a continuous sabotage of
03:30opportunities to restore security and stability in Syria after the fall of Assad.
03:37Qatar has on its part deplored a new episode in the series of Israeli aggressors on Syrian
03:42territories and a blatant violation of international law.
03:46Approximately 30,000 Israeli citizens live in 34 Golan towns annexed by Israel, of which
03:5223,000 Druze claim to be mostly Syrian while having the status of a resident in Israel.
04:04As for the Israeli occupation, it is not surprising that Israel is currently starting a new occupation
04:10behind us.
04:11You can see the excavation work carried out by the Israeli army.
04:15This goes against all international standards.
04:21Happiness has not been satisfied since Israel attacked the Golan villages and is
04:27cleaning up this region to seize part of the Syrian territory.
04:33The Israeli army has also seized areas beyond the Tampon area.
04:38Israel has presented this action, which has aroused international condemnation as a temporary
04:44and defensive action.
04:45On its part, the Israeli Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, ordered the troops to prepare
04:50to stay all winter in the Tampon area and Netanyahu had declared that the annexed Golan
04:55would be Israeli for eternity.
04:59Israeli officials arrived on Monday in Doha for discussions in order to put out the fire
05:06in Gaza in exchange for hostages and prisoners.
05:09The talks between Israel and Hamas led to a visit to Doha on Wednesday by the Mossad
05:16Chief of the Israeli Foreign Intelligence Service, David Barnea.
05:20Israeli negotiators have never been so close to an agreement in terms of the release of
05:27hostages in the Palestinian territory since the November 2023 strike.
05:32Yesterday, the Israeli Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, declared a strike of one week,
05:39the only one so far to have allowed the release of 105 hostages held in the Gaza Strip and
05:46that of 240 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
05:50All efforts of mediation led by Egypt, the United States and Qatar, since then to try
05:58to get a new truce, have failed.
06:02In a special interview with Media TV, the French Ambassador to Morocco comes back to
06:10the position of France, which recognizes the sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara.
06:15Christophe Lecourtier, in particular, evokes the gestures that followed Paris' commitment
06:21in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
06:24I offer you an excerpt.
06:26The first movement for this question is really to make this political position concrete.
06:34And two illustrations, I think, that have not escaped anyone have been implemented very quickly.
06:39First, the map has been modified.
06:43It is not every day that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs modifies the map of a region or a country.
06:52It now visually translates our new position.
06:59And it's very good like that.
07:01In recent weeks, instructions have been given to all administrations, to all ministries,
07:08so that the map of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is obviously the map of all French administrations.
07:14The second illustration is that the President of the Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs
07:19have asked the French Ambassador to Morocco, to your servant, to go quickly to the Ayoune region,
07:28to the Dakhla region, to have contacts with all the local personalities.
07:33This is the first time that an ambassador from France to Morocco has made an official visit.
07:39I did it with a lot of ambassadors from the embassy, and it was covered by the press.
07:46It was a gesture, of course, that was the consequence of this new position.
07:54The city of Marrakech welcomed this Monday the ceremony of the CAF Awards 2024.
08:00The city of Ocra received the celebrities and legends of the African continent
08:04to reward the players, but also the coaches who have been illustrated during this year.
08:12Ademoula Loukman won the African Ballon d'Or and succeeded his Nigerian compatriot Victor Chimène.
08:19Moroccan Doha El-Medani won the trophy of the best young African player,
08:26while Bouchra Kadboubi was the referee of the year.
08:30The Ivory Coast championed Africa in the title and ended the best African nation,
08:37while in the ladies, it is Nigeria who is plebiscited.
08:41The Senegalese Lamine Kamara retains his title of best young African player.
08:47Here are some reactions.
08:51I want to thank the president of the CAF.
08:58I want to express my gratitude to the CAF for having named me for the first time the best female referee.
09:04I would like to thank my federation for this.
09:14I also thank the federation for its constant support and commitment,
09:19which allowed me to reach the position I am in today.
09:22I want to thank God Almighty for this historic moment, which is an important milestone in my journey.
09:34I want to thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his constant support of Moroccan sports and athletes.
09:39I would also like to thank the Moroccan Royal Football Federation and its president Fawzi Al-Qajar
09:46for their unwavering commitment in favor of the development of women's football.
09:56I am very proud and happy to receive the award of the best coach in Africa.
10:10On this occasion, I would like to thank my family and my husband for their unwavering support.
10:15I would also like to express my gratitude to the Moroccan Royal Football Federation
10:20for its constant support in the development of women's football, which I am the result of.
10:25A big thank you to Mr. Fawzi Al-Qajar for his precious work in favor of women's football.
10:38In Moroccan schools, physical education teachers play an essential role in guiding the most promising students
10:47to clubs or sports academies.
10:52Many young talents have been identified thanks to inter-school competitions or sports evaluations in schools.
11:02This is a video clip showing the story of Younes Meziga.
11:08It is much more than a simple physical activity.
11:10Sports sessions at school play a crucial role in the growth of young sports talents.
11:16They provide equal access to sport, regardless of the social origins or financial means of the families.
11:21Accessibility allows the discovery of talents in all levels of society,
11:26revealing sometimes hidden potentials.
11:32Sports sessions at school are much more than a simple moment of relaxation.
11:38It is often the first contact of students with a sports discipline.
11:46The school can become a training center for young talents.
11:51It is often there that children first touch a sports discipline.
11:59Thanks to adapted programs, sports sessions initiate young people in various disciplines,
12:05developing both their physical ability and essential values such as teamwork and perseverance,
12:11fundamental skills to build a sporting career.
12:22We have had students who have been able to join national teams that play in the championship.
12:29At the age of 15, some of them have even become key players in their teams.
12:37Thanks to inter-school competitions or sports evaluations in schools,
12:42it is often on school grounds that future sports stars are spotted.
12:48And now, the guest of the major newspaper, Média Morning.
12:54A week after Bashar al-Assad's fall in Syria,
12:59the Israeli army continues to bomb military installations in the face of the current situation.
13:06In Syria, diplomatic initiatives have multiplied in recent days.
13:13The various capitals of the world have taken prudent steps to re-establish contact with the new Syrian authorities,
13:22notably the HTS group.
13:25To talk about this, we are live with Mr. François Carmontran,
13:30an international affairs expert.
13:32Hello, Mr. Carmontran, and thank you for being with us.
13:37Hello, thank you for having me this morning.
13:40The UN Special Envoy for Syria has signed the first visit of a senior UN official
13:50since Bashar al-Assad's flight to Russia.
13:54The UN Special Envoy met with Abu Mohammed al-Joulani,
13:58head of the HTS group.
14:01Is the Olympic diplomacy taking action to frame the political transition that is about to begin?
14:08What do you think?
14:10I think that everyone is trying to reassure themselves.
14:13The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, it seems to me, is in Damascus today.
14:20You also have the leader, Joulani, who asked to get in touch as soon as possible with the British authorities.
14:29But for the moment, everyone is trying to take territorial measures.
14:34We see the actions of the Israeli forces since the departure of Bashar al-Assad,
14:42destroying the military potential of what was left of it in Syria.
14:48We also see the Turks pushing their fire to avoid the constitution of a Kurdish state
14:55and to put their hands on eastern Syria,
14:59that is, the oil that is in the Kurdistan-Syrian zone.
15:03Oil that was already in the hands, directly or indirectly, of American oil companies.
15:09The European Union, speaking of these contacts,
15:18the European Union has commissioned a senior diplomat to forge direct relations
15:22with the transitory government.
15:24Washington and London have also established a direct contact with the new power in place.
15:32What are the common concerns of these foreign chancellories in the face of Syria?
15:41I believe that they are trying to gain a good place
15:46and to buy a moral cushion in the reconstruction of Syria tomorrow.
15:52But the reconstruction is already a very important economic and industrial program
15:59since a lot of things are destroyed, a lot of infrastructure.
16:02Will European and French companies be able to participate?
16:07The Turks are right next door, I had already spoken about it.
16:11And then the moral cushion on the flag that we wave for the protection of minorities.
16:18But what about these minorities and their security,
16:22whether they are Alawite, Shiite, Druze, Ismailian or Christian,
16:29in Syria tomorrow, knowing that you have a majority of Sunnis.
16:35All the Sunnis were not necessarily pro-militia,
16:42at least those who are in power,
16:44but we are really in a very large period of uncertainty that is opening up.
16:48The fall of President Bashar al-Assad after 50 years of reign
16:55poses an almost infinite list of questions.
16:58One of the most important is the current priorities.
17:03What are the priorities in Syria?
17:08I think the priorities are stability, peace, the economic renaissance of the country.
17:14The country has been under embargo since 2011-2012.
17:19So how do you want an economy to survive if it is attacked from all sides?
17:25I know that Cuba and Iran have been resisting relatively well since 1979
17:33i.e. the battle of Batista.
17:39But it is limited.
17:43If we have a real economic prosperity, a reconstruction that takes place,
17:49we can see things in a positive way.
17:53The big part is still the political part
18:00and the stability and peace in the country.
18:04We must remember that Syria was perhaps not a perfect construction,
18:12but it was a subtle balance of minorities,
18:15with a domination of the Houthis, Shiites, Christians, etc.,
18:19even if there was a majority of Sunnis.
18:21It was holding on, with an authoritarian regime, but it was holding on.
18:27During this time, the Israeli army intensified its air strikes against military sites in Syria.
18:35How do you explain this escalation?
18:40I think it's what we call, in American terms, the opportunity shot.
18:45They have told us enough in Afghanistan.
18:48Well, listen, they are taking territorial gauges.
18:52The Golan would now be an Israeli territory until the end of time.
18:56That's what Prime Minister Netanyahu said.
18:58I note it.
19:00They are bombing naval military bases.
19:05Almost all of the Syrian fleet is destroyed.
19:08The Russian bases are spared.
19:12Everyone pushes his fire.
19:15The Turks by the north and by the northwest, but also the east.
19:19And then Israel, directly by the Golan.
19:24Knowing that, visibly, the Israeli aviation goes everywhere and anywhere in the Syrian territory.
19:32So they do what they want.
19:34They take advantage of it.
19:36They do what they want until there is a form of political stability.
19:38But when? And with whom?
19:40The Israeli government approved on Sunday a project
19:45aimed at doubling the population in the Golan region, occupied and annexed by the Syrians.
19:52Israel claims to be taking these measures to ensure the safety of its citizens.
19:57Are the fears of Israel in terms of security justified?
20:05Well, given the Israeli overpowering, I don't think so.
20:08I don't think so, because in any case, they have shown, not only since October 7,
20:13but they have always shown, with the American big brother behind them, their overpowering.
20:18But they take advantage of it.
20:20Extensions, we have already talked about it.
20:22If the Sham is the meeting of the Libyan-Syrian-Palestinian territories,
20:34well, we can also think that some are pushing the Israeli code to extend the territories.
20:40The famous Greater Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates.
20:44We have been talking about it for a long time.
20:46So how far will they go?
20:48In any case, Syria seems to me to be crumbled or will lose territories for a long time.
20:53If we can keep the Syrian territory as it is tomorrow, and it is not won.
20:59Let's talk about this last measure taken by Israel.
21:05The occupation by Israel of the Tampon area, which has aroused many international criticism.
21:13How can we consider the seizure of control of the Tampon area in view of international law?
21:22Well, a violation of international law, that's all.
21:27They take territorial gauges, they advance their pawns, they are in a position of force,
21:32there is no resistance in front of them.
21:34There is no confrontation between the pro-Turkish militias, the Islamist militias and the Israeli army.
21:43It may mean something, but in any case, they take advantage of it, they advance.
21:46And no one resists them.
21:48There is no one in front of them.
21:51Last question, Mr. Carmon-Tran.
21:53Israel has justified the latest strikes as limited and temporary strikes.
22:03In your opinion, how long will these Israeli attacks last against Syria?
22:10Well, listen, there is no need to be very clear to imagine that things can slow down or move
22:18from the moment when Donald Trump will be president of the United States again,
22:26that is to say, from the 20th of January next year.
22:29In any case, until the 20th of January, it's still a good month.
22:32I can see that the Israeli army continues to take a maximum of strategic, military and territorial gauges.
22:40They will not be the only ones, of course.
22:43Mr. François Carmon-Tran, thank you for all your clarifications.
22:48Thank you for answering our questions.
22:50I remind you that you are an expert in international affairs.
22:56Thank you very much. Have a good day. Goodbye.
23:02This is how this edition ends.
