00:00The Australia Scrum Project was an initiative started by Whisper TV in conjunction with
00:07the Welsh Rugby Union where Scott Quinnell, Siobhan Lillicrapp and other coaches from
00:14School of Hard Knocks got together to give opportunities for people to try a new format
00:20of rugby, T1, but also to come together and tackle and challenge challenges within their
00:27own lives through the medium of rugby.
00:29They committed training week in week out which was all around Wales, so we had a training
00:34base in South Wales, Mid Wales and North Wales and week in week out people would travel,
00:38there was training up north, from south to north and vice versa and I think that takes
00:42a huge amount of commitment, but also the bravery, determination and the vulnerability
00:48in which the participants showed to progress themselves but also to come together as a
00:53collective in a new format of the game and become a team and therefore become a family.
00:58The growth we saw in all of the individuals was amazing and to culminate that journey
01:06with a wonderful victory in London was just fantastic.
01:11Probably the biggest thing I saw was people challenge their own limiting beliefs, so their
01:19perceived limitations were blown out of the water.
01:22An example being Dolan who never thought he would hold a job or certainly not a job within
01:28a sport, but a huge sport is now working as a community coach with the Welsh Rugby Union
01:32and have an enormous impact on young people's lives in North Wales through his work.
01:38This group of people were amazing, they turned up as individuals and over the course of three
01:43or four months they became this unit, this team that were willing to do anything for
01:49each other on the rugby pitch and they can feel immensely proud of what they've done.
01:55I don't think they realise the impact but I hope they do now, the positive impact they've
02:00had on people's lives and will continue to have on people's lives.
02:04The Street is Scrum programme should absolutely be recognised in our Volunteer Awards.
02:08It utilised a format that highlighted everything that's good in rugby, about creating social
02:17connection, about challenging barriers, about growth, about togetherness, everything that
02:21we love about our sport.
02:25They brought out rugby in its purest form and we should definitely recognise that.
