Government figures show 2024 births will be lower than the year before, despite it being the Year of the Dragon, considered an auspicious time to have children.

00:00The normally auspicious year of the dragon hasn't boosted Taiwan's low birth rate.
00:06While it's considered a good year to have a child,
00:09the Interior Ministry projects that some 134,000 babies will be born in all of 2024.
00:16That's lower than last year's 135,000.
00:20It's also the first time ever that there were few dragon babies born than in the last year of the tiger,
00:26generally considered an inauspicious year to have kids.
