00:00Everything that man just said is true.
00:05We are backstage at KROQ's 33rd Annual Almost Acoustic Christmas with Jimmy Eatworld.
00:12Inside the Forum Club.
00:13I was doing some due diligence here as I believe I'm supposed to do before I interview bands
00:17like you guys.
00:18And this is your 8th Almost Acoustic Christmas.
00:20Do you believe that?
00:21I can't believe it.
00:22It seems like just yesterday we were playing our first one.
00:24Isn't that crazy?
00:25I read that stat and I go, I might need to let these guys know.
00:27You can say no when KROQ asks.
00:29You don't always have to do it every single time.
00:31But you can't.
00:33Oh, the old game, right?
00:36Well thanks for coming back.
00:37And this is actually the first time that it's post-Jimmy Eatworld Day, which I think is
00:41pretty neat.
00:42Do you want to tell the fans in LA that may not have experienced this in the great state
00:44of Arizona?
00:45Yeah, October 17th we were presented by the Mayor of Phoenix with an official proclamation
00:51declaring that day Jimmy Eatworld Day.
00:54Yeah.
00:55Well thank you.
00:57Damn right.
00:59It's the municipality of Phoenix.
01:00I mean if other cities want to follow suit, that's kind of up to them.
01:04Now is that your day every single year?
01:05Is that how that works?
01:06Yeah.
01:07So that's like, I'm going to treat it as like the second Father's Day because it's like
01:10the Jimmy Eatworld Day and I'm like the only person in our house that's in the band, right?
01:15So it's like, well, I don't have to do any tours today.
01:17It's like our band's day.
01:18So it's like a second Father's Day.
01:20Well, I was reading the comments from the Mayor, man.
01:22He was laying on heavy.
01:23He was like, you guys built that city.
01:25That's right.
01:26Yeah.
01:27Rock and roll.
01:28I didn't know that about Phoenix, Arizona.
01:29The Jimmy Eatworld in fact built Phoenix, but that's pretty cool.
01:32And do they give you a sort of like a symbolic key?
01:34How does that work?
01:35No, just a symbolic document.
01:37Do you chain?
01:38A very nice document.
01:39Okay.
01:40Do you frame that?
01:41I'll probably frame it.
01:42All right.
01:43Right on.
01:44Now, you guys are doing something really cool.
01:45If you're listening to K-Rock right now and maybe you can't attend tonight and catch the
01:47Jimmy Eatworld set, you can actually own a piece of Jimmy Eatworld history.
01:51I just was reading about this.
01:52This is so neat.
01:53So you're selling some pretty classic gear that maybe you used on some classic tours
01:56back in the day?
01:57Yeah.
01:58Over our entire career, we've built up kind of a lot of gear that we've used for like
02:04various things and we're kind of thinning the herd right now.
02:07So you can go to Reverb.com.
02:08HTTP.
02:09Yeah.
02:10Colon.
02:11I think if you just search our band name at Reverb, you'll find it.
02:18The SEO will do it for sure.
02:19Now, I understand that some of the stuff you're giving away is from the Pop Disaster Tour
02:23back in the day, which you guys went on, of course, with Green Day.
02:26And we had the Linda Lindas, who are one of these bands, making their debut tonight at
02:29Almost A Kiss of Christmas.
02:30And they were talking about how they were pranking Green Day and Green Day was pranking
02:32them on this summer tour they were on this year.
02:34Do you guys have any memories of that Pop Disaster Tour?
02:37That is a can of worms that you don't want to start.
02:40You probably can't talk about it on the radio.
02:41No.
02:42I mean, all I know is that you don't want to start it.
02:46Green Day is the all-time great band at doing pranks for the opening bands when they're
02:51on the last day of the tour.
02:53For us, we were actually ending the tour early.
02:55So we were on their tour and we ended early.
02:58They threw potato flakes onto my drum kit and then doused it with water, glitter.
03:05We were playing a mellow song, like Hear You Me or something, and they were doing concussion
03:08bombs during the mellow songs.
03:10So they were messing with us hardcore.
03:15And to this day, the old cases that we have, that we had for that tour, you can still see
03:21glitter in the fuzz of the cases.
03:24It doesn't come out.
03:25It's permanent.
03:26To this day.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Fond memories.
03:29The one thing that's lame about their pranks is that when we tried to clear pranks for
03:33them, their tour manager told us no.
03:36So it's not an even playing field.
03:37It's a one-way street.
03:38Yes.
03:39There you go.
03:40Well, very cool.
03:41You guys are going to do a great set, of course, tonight for the fans.
03:43They're very excited.
03:44We've been playing Jimmy E World all year long on KROQ.
03:46And we're here tonight with some of our friends, the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health.
03:49You guys tour like crazy.
03:51I mean, even to this day.
03:52How do you guys just sort of make sure you're good mentally as you sort of navigate this
03:56crazy industry?
03:57You just got to listen to what your body is saying, I think, and then act on that.
04:02It usually comes in the form of breaks.
04:05Or like setting aside time, not overextending yourself, not overworking.
04:13Leave all the still clapping is a mantra that you can kind of apply to a lot of different
04:17areas of your life.
04:18Yeah.
04:19Amen.
04:20We try to keep the place that music comes from protected, because it's supposed to be
04:24fun.
04:27We do what we can to try to keep it fun, and usually that means stepping back and trying
04:31to focus on other areas of life than just trying to be the best band we can.
04:39Never losing sight of that.
04:40Well, guys, give it up in the Forum Club for Jimmy E World.
04:43They're going to be hitting the stage tonight at 7.20.
04:46Let's get into a little Jimmy E World right now on KROQ.
04:48This is Last Christmas, how apropos.
04:50Well, actually, Jim, would you like to do this intro, play radio doofus for a second?
04:56No.
04:57Last Christmas by Jimmy E World.
05:00Beautiful.
05:01Beautiful stuff.
05:02It's the world-famous KROQ.
