00:00Travis Hunter in pole position to win the Heisman Trophy tomorrow night, Joe, minus
00:08$10,000 is his price to strike the pros on a December Saturday night in the Big Apple.
00:16Yeah, it's endless and well-deserved and not like we didn't think this was coming here.
00:24But he has been that kind of elite athlete, elite football player on both sides of the
00:29ball.
00:30It's it has been impressive and we have not seen the likes of this in a long, long time
00:35since actually his coach, in fact, was the last guy I remember making an impact on both
00:41sides of the ball in college football.
00:44He's a phenom and we may not see it again for another 20 or so years.
00:48So well-deserved and he could cap it off on Saturday tomorrow night there, Ben, with the
00:53ultimate hardware.
00:57For Travis Hunter, who has the second most receiving touchdowns in the sport, he is the
01:02sixth leading receiver at the FBS level, second most in a power conference, and he is elite
01:09on that side and defensively, most past breakups this year in the Big 12, has the third best
01:15cover grade among any FBS cornerbacks this season, according to PFF and yes, Ashton Gente
01:23is well-deserving of the Heisman Trophy hardware as well.
01:27Won the Doak Walker Award, Doak Campbell, no, Doak Campbell is Thorstein, always get
01:31it confused.
01:32Doak Walker for the best running back in the country.
01:35And I will just say this, Joe, I tested you with some trivia earlier on before we even
01:40started today.
01:41Ashton Gente did win the Maxwell Award in the last decade since 2014, eight of the ten
01:48winners of the Maxwell also won the Heisman Trophy.
01:51Only twice has the winner of the Maxwell Award not won the Heisman Trophy hardware.
01:572018, to a tongue-of-my-loah, won the Maxwell Award, Carla Murray won the Heisman.
02:03Last year, Michael Pennix Jr. won the Maxwell Award, Jaden Daniels won the Heisman.
02:09But still, at least according to the odds makers, in a narrative-based award, it is
02:13hard to quantify, Travis Hunter remains that hefty favorite.
02:18Yeah, and yes, and it looks like we could have now, what, three years in a row here,
02:23Ben, or three of the last five or seven years that we have seen this happen.
02:28And can I tell you something?
02:30It's kind of hard to argue that one person should win both the Maxwell and the Heisman
02:36there because there's been more than one unbelievable season in college football.
02:42And Aston Gentle, in his own right, very, very worthy of the Maxwell Award.
02:47Also, I mean, I wouldn't argue with him winning the Heisman either here, Ben, if we didn't
02:51know what the odds were.
