00:05Colleges and universities from around the country have gathered
00:09for the first-ever Ched All-Star Basketball Friendship Games.
00:13According to the Commission on Higher Education,
00:15this is part of their National Tertiary Games.

00:25In a rare opportunity,
00:26several colleges and universities from around the country
00:30have gathered for the first-ever Ched All-Star Basketball Friendship Games
00:33organized by the Commission on Higher Education.
00:36This is part of the International Basketball Week.
00:39This is a three-day basketball single round-robin tournament
00:43where each league has a school to represent.
00:46St. Clair College of Caloocan has represented
00:49the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities.
00:53University of Northern Philippines from Vigan
00:57has represented the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association, or SCUA.
01:01Local Colleges and Universities Athletic Association, or ELCUA,
01:05has represented Taman Tasa ng Lungsod na Marikina, or PLMAR.
01:09While Amandoc Poppy College from Tabaco, Albayang
01:12has represented the PRISAA, or Private Schools Athletic Association.
01:16To bring them together in the spirit of friendship,
01:19in the spirit of competition,
01:20to really celebrate the ability of the schools to produce very good athletes,
01:27their ability to provide quality education.
01:30At the opening ceremony yesterday,
01:32Chairman Devera and Senate Committee Chairman on Sports and Health,
01:36Senator Bongo led the torchlighting.
01:38An exhibition game was held by all-star teams
01:41from the two premier collegiate leagues in the country,
01:44the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or NCAA Philippines,
01:47at UAAP, or University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
01:52The NCAA All-Stars 105-97 won.
01:56It's also a way of bridging the gaps between the athletic associations.
02:02After all, it's supposed to be a breeding ground for the Philippine national team,
02:07and for the professionals as well.
02:09To have the best talents in one roof, in one day,
02:14is very big definitely. It's a good gesture.
02:15So definitely, this is a celebration of our platform.
02:20For other leagues, this is a challenge for their ability to be more predictable.
02:25For them to have inspirations to fight,
02:28and when we get there, we will learn a lot.
02:33According to CHED, these games are just a preview of their bigger plan
02:38to bring all tertiary schools in the country together in one league.
02:41There is a law that will pass soon, the tertiary games.
02:46If it continues, we will be happy because there is a mechanism
02:51to organize all the schools in the whole country in sports competition.
02:56Tomorrow, the finals of the CHED All-Stars Basketball Friendship Games will be held.
