00:05In the Christmas event,
00:06Nights of Lights,
00:07the Pine Crest Gardens,
00:08where the gardens are adorned with colored lights
00:11and festive activities are held for the family,
00:15a special space has been reserved
00:17to pay homage to the Cuban singer Celia Cruz
00:20on the centenary of her birth.
00:22The exhibition allows you to get to know her life and story more closely.
00:27♪♪♪
00:29We have two concerts in January, January 31,
00:33after February 1,
00:36presenting Celia.
00:37And the idea came to me
00:39in collaboration with the State of Celia
00:42to present an exhibition.
00:44♪♪♪
00:48Well, this exhibition
00:50actually opens the frame of Celia's centenary,
00:54which is in October,
00:54but we started early to celebrate
00:57the legacy of this great woman.
01:00And this exhibition,
01:01particularly, you will realize,
01:02you see photos,
01:03you see original costumes,
01:05for example, that blue dress
01:06that is more than 70 years old.
01:08And it is important that the new generations
01:11know what it was in Cuba,
01:13the elegance that existed,
01:14its cabarets,
01:16which is not the destruction that exists today.
01:19Cuba was a very successful country,
01:22a country that had a great impact
01:24worldwide at the time.
01:25♪♪♪
01:29We started to do all the preparation,
01:32check the photos,
01:33study the years,
01:35and we focused on the years from 1950 to the 60s
01:40to cover the period of Sonora Matancera.
01:44So, at that moment,
01:46the idea began to be made
01:48and how we were going to present this exhibition.
01:50♪♪♪
01:54I always say that Celia was born in Cuba,
01:57but she no longer belongs to us,
01:58she belongs to all Latin Americans.
02:00A woman who, as an immigrant,
02:02came to this country
02:03and who today,
02:04after 21 years of death,
02:06finds not only her image in a coin,
02:09finding the word sugar
02:11for the first time in the US currency,
02:14tells you the importance of us Latinos
02:17as immigrants,
02:18that we have come to this country,
02:20we have triumphed,
02:21as Celia triumphed,
02:21who arrived with nothing,
02:22and who was going to tell her,
02:23possibly with a few coins in her pocket,
02:26and who was going to be in the face of a coin.
02:28♪♪♪
02:32I think Celia is universal.
02:36She will attract different populations of Miami,
02:39but we, in particular,
02:41have many young families
02:44with small children.
02:45So, we hope to be able to present Celia
02:48and all her image
02:50to all of Miami.
02:52I hope so.
02:53I know that, in addition to the exhibition,
02:54there will be a concert.
02:56What else is around this exhibition here?
02:59Well, here at Pied Press,
03:00on January 31 and February 1,
03:03a concert with Lucrecia,
03:04who comes directly from Barcelona,
03:06to remember the golden age
03:08of Celia's music and Cuban music,
03:10with the Sonora Matancera,
03:12which was the orchestra that made Celia known
03:14and accompanied her for many years.
03:17She will be accompanied by Celia Cruz Solestars
03:19and it will be an excellent concert.
03:21Everyone who has come here
03:23knows this spectacular venue.
03:26What is Celia to you?
03:27For me, Celia is everything.
03:28For me, she is a woman
03:29who had a great impact on my life.
03:32She entrusted her career
03:33when I was an inexperienced man
03:34who was only 22 years old.
03:36And I always promised her
03:38that the day she was gone,
03:39her legacy would take her to future generations.
03:42And Celia, for me,
03:44I think of her every day
03:45because I met Celia de la Caridad Cruz Alfonso,
03:48the woman behind the myth.
03:50And that is the one I always have here in my heart.
03:58Nights of Lights will be open to the public
04:00until Saturday, January 4, 2025,
04:04from 6 to 9 at night.
04:06It is an opportunity to enjoy
04:08the Christmas atmosphere
04:10and at the same time,
04:11to get closer to the history
04:13and the legacy of our beloved Celia Cruz.
