00:00It was recorded in the camera that the price of rice went up in Buatan.
00:05That's why the price of rice is still high among the families.
00:09The importers also denied the allegation that there's a cartel manipulating the price of rice.
00:15Here's the latest news, Jonathan Andal.
00:21The price of imported rice varies from P40 to P64 per kilo in the market.
00:26It depends on the class.
00:28Based on the latest monitoring of the Department of Agriculture,
00:30the price of rice is still high even though there's an oversupply of rice
00:34and even though the price of rice was reduced by 20% since last July.
00:38That's why the congressmen believe that there's a cartel in the rice industry.
00:43Our rice is in the warehouse.
00:48They don't export it.
00:50That's why the price didn't go down.
00:52The farmers were affected.
00:54Nothing happened to the consumers because there's a cartel in Buatan.
01:01I think there's something wrong with our government agencies.
01:06Why don't we meet our target of reducing the price of rice?
01:12The farm gate price went down.
01:14The landed cost went down.
01:17It should translate to lower retail but that's not what happened.
01:23According to the Quinta Committee of the Camera,
01:25the 10 largest importers of rice in the Philippines
01:29denied the allegation that there's a cartel manipulating the price of rice.
01:34We don't have a cartel.
01:36We don't do profiteering.
01:40We're dictated by the market prices.
01:43We don't do hoarding.
01:45We blame the spotlights of the importers.
01:49In fact, what we see is the problem with the retailers.
01:52According to the Bureau of Customs,
01:54when imported rice arrives in the country,
01:56its price is P33 per kilo or the so-called landed cost.
02:01The importer will take it and they say
02:03they sell it to the wholesaler for P35 to P40.
02:07When it arrives to the wholesaler,
02:09the rice will be sold to the dealer before it arrives to the retailer in the market.
02:13They're fooling us somewhere else.
02:15According to the Bureau of Customs, it's P33.
02:18According to the wholesaler,
02:20they sell it for P35 to P40.
02:22Why is it sold to the market for P50?
02:24A large rice importer is still a bit contemptible.
02:28He said that he imported P1 billion worth of rice this year
02:32but it's impossible to say how much they earn.
02:35It's impossible, sir, that you don't know how much you earn.
02:39My wife is the one who's computing.
02:41Our detention facility is spacious, Mr. Chair.
02:44He told me the truth.
02:45I think you're lying.
02:47We're wondering why the prices are so high
02:50and the importer has nothing to do with it.
02:52I can't accept that, Mr. Chair.
02:55May I now request AMLA, Mr. Chair,
03:00to check the financial records and transactions of all these top importers.
03:09The Department of Agriculture can't say if there's a cartel for rice.
03:14I cannot categorize that there is.
03:16It's not mandatory to say that.
03:18This is the first news.
