00:00The outbreak of COVID-19 forced many schools around the world to search for a new way of
00:09precautionary measures to curb the virus. As we all know that hand washing is the most
00:15effective way to prevent the spread of infections, we are at Victoria English School in Sharjah
00:21to see their new innovative way of encouraging students to wash their hands.
00:27One of the things we're trying to do is we're trying to get students to not just associate
00:33hand washing with going to the bathroom, but hand washing is just part of good hygiene
00:37and good COVID-19 preparedness. So we've taken some barrels which we have made into portable
00:45sink units and many of them are inside at the moment, but what we're hoping to do is
00:50we're going to have ten of these made around the school and in time we'll take them outside
00:54so that students will be able to go outside and take a break and hand wash on the yard
01:00and then as a result throughout the day we'll be making sure all the students get the opportunity
01:05to regularly wash their hands and not just the regular sanitisation that's going on.
01:10So the sinks are made here with a feed and with a water tank and they looked a little
01:15bit bland, we're trying to obviously make school as welcoming as possible for the students
01:20and not make it feel like it's an over-sanitised environment, so Miss Yoshida who's our artist
01:25in residence has been decorating the barrels with these beautiful paintings and colours
01:30to make them as attractive as possible and to hope the students enjoy using them.
01:38We painted ten barrels with the theme of Dubai, Egypt and other countries, England, because
01:45we have all of the students here studying, so for them to see and feel happy.
01:51With the colours they are very happy actually to wash and they sometimes look around how
01:56I painted, so it's really a pleasure you know, they don't feel that they have to wash every
02:0220 minutes, so it's really nice.
02:05I think they were saying to us, we are happy Miss, to see these barrels with colourful
02:11paintings, so I think we have successfully done it.
02:14Prevent crowds of students around the sinks, will surely send a clear message to our parents
02:21that their children are in safe hands.
02:24I'm Ali Shook from Gulf News, take care everyone.
