00:00The first edition of the One Health Ambassador project, promoted by Boehringer Ingelheim
00:09in collaboration with EDRA, ended with the awarding event at the Senate of the Republic.
00:14The initiative, which involved doctors of general medicine, pharmacists and veterinarians,
00:19aims to promote an integrated and multidisciplinary approach to health, emphasizing the interconnection
00:25between human, animal and environmental health.
00:28We have certainly noticed the need to increase training, ensuring better alignment between professions.
00:36As we now say, One Health is for everyone. It is not a good thing, but a necessity.
00:44And so we must continue to make sense of it.
00:47The project, launched in spring, has mapped virtuous practices and identified professionals
00:52who daily apply the One Health model,
00:55considered essential to face challenges such as zoonosis, emerging diseases and antibiotic resistance.
01:02Of the 102 awarded, 55% are veterinary doctors, 28% pharmacists and 17% doctors of general medicine.
01:11The most represented regions are Lombardy, Lazio and Emilia-Romagna,
01:15but gaps have emerged in areas at high risk of zoonosis, suggesting a lower local sensitivity.
01:21The approach is now known to everyone. It is a holistic approach, a system approach,
01:26an approach that involves environment, therapies, early diagnosis, early and effective care, precision medicine.
01:36In short, all topics, all themes that open up challenging and very innovative scenarios.
01:43The health professions are all transversally involved in this logic,
01:49which is, I recall, the logic that underlies the PNRR.
01:55The report, linked to the initiative, highlighted the need to intensify training and interprofessional collaboration.
02:02Veterinary doctors and pharmacists have expressed the desire to work in greater synergy,
02:07also through the support of institutions and scientific societies.
02:11However, criticisms have emerged, including a lack of knowledge of zoonosis by many basic doctors
02:17and the need for a greater use of tools such as the antibiogram to combat antibiotic resistance.
02:24Only in this circularity can we have a better approach to the protection of our health.
02:30Clearly, for this, however, there is a need for awareness from all citizens
02:34and public opinion, which then encourages and promotes policies.
02:39Therefore, events such as this serve to circulate the ideas of this approach between human health,
02:47animal health and the ecosystem, which is fundamental.
02:50The initiative also underlined the importance of raising awareness of the general public
02:54and the new generations on the One Health approach.
02:57The goal is to encourage cultural change and promote collaboration between professionals
03:03to build an integrated health system.
