00:00Let's talk about a colorful and exciting event in the world of football, the ASEAN ELECTRIC CUP 2024.
00:08And to give us more details about that, we will interview Mr. Dennis Lucindo this morning.
00:14Good morning, sir, and welcome here to Rise and Shine Philippines.
00:17Sir Dennis, good morning.
00:18Good morning, Audrey and Rod, and thank you for inviting me here so early in the morning.
00:25This is a good thing to talk about for sports fans.
00:28For those who don't know, please introduce this ASEAN ELECTRIC CUP 2024.
00:35Yes, it's actually the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
00:40And it's held every two years.
00:43We have our ASEAN neighbors, their national teams.
00:49We will play in the group stage in Myanmar on December 12 here at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
00:57On December 15, we will play in Laos.
01:01On December 18, we will return here to play against Vietnam.
01:05And then we will leave on December 21.
01:08We will play against Indonesia.
01:10So our group is a bit heavy, but we have high hopes to advance to the knockout stage of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
01:18Sir, just for your information, in this particular tournament, how important is it to win?
01:24Does it mean this is a qualifier for other cups?
01:27This tournament is a tournament unto itself.
01:32But anytime we play against an international competition, there is a chance for our ranking to go up or down in football.
01:41Sir, let's talk about the chances of our cup.
01:45How strong are the players of the Philippines?
01:48And are we involved in international friendly games?
01:54Well, last month, we played against Hong Kong.
01:59We lost there because our coach is new.
02:01There were a lot of new players.
02:03But our kids showed a good performance.
02:05Actually, they are not kids anymore. They are adults.
02:08Most of them are 20 years old.
02:10Although there are a few in their teenage years.
02:13We showed a good performance.
02:15Our coach is new. His name is Albert Capellas.
02:18Our opponents are heavy because there are a lot of Indonesians.
02:23There are a lot of naturalized players.
02:26And for them, naturalized doesn't necessarily mean they have Indonesian blood.
02:31For us, if you are naturalized in any sport, you need to have at least a grandfather or grandmother who is Filipino.
02:39So, it's a tough game.
02:41But our teammates will surely fight.
02:45Sir, you said that our opponents are like powerhouses in the group.
02:49What does the Philippine team focus on?
02:51What is our strategy?
02:55Well, under Coach Capellas, the first thing he looks for is the cohesion of the team.
03:01Their teamwork.
03:03Because football is a game where 11 players are on your team at any given time.
03:08It's not like basketball where it's 3-on-3 or 5-on-5.
03:11Think about it.
03:1211 players at the same time.
03:14They all need to understand each other.
03:17I think that's what the coach looks for in our team.
03:22But for your personal opinion, does our team have enough preparation?
03:28Well, it's always hard to prepare specifically for this tournament.
03:33Because we have what we call international windows throughout the calendar year.
03:39Because most of the players play for private clubs in different parts of the world.
03:46In those weeks, it's mandated for them to leave their clubs.
03:50For the Mitsubishi Electric Cup, it's hard because it's not within the international window.
03:56So, we often talk with their mother clubs to ask them to leave their clubs and play for the national team.
04:03Although, because the playing season in the United States is over,
04:08we have a lot of players who can come here to play in the Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
04:14But the question here is about the chemistry.
04:16Because you're not familiar with the moves of each member.
04:22This is not the first time that they play together.
04:26Throughout the year, there have been several pocket tournaments or international friendlies
04:32where the players play together.
04:35There are about 30-40 players on the team at any given time.
04:39And they play together.
04:42The team's handlers told me that every now and then,
04:46they have a Zoom meeting where they talk to each other to get to know each other.
04:52So, the intervention wasn't hard?
04:55Because the Rupper is a group team, right?
04:58Not really.
04:59By this time, they're getting to know each other.
05:03For our fellow countrymen who are interested in watching this live,
05:06especially what's happening here at the Rizal Memorial Stadium,
05:10can we do this again?
05:14My first invitation to them is to watch at the Rizal Memorial Stadium
05:19and give it a home arena atmosphere.
05:23Let's encourage our team and make it difficult for the other team.
05:27If you can't come to Rizal, we have a partnership with PTV Sports
05:31where our games will be broadcast live on PTV Sports.
05:35Again, December 12, 15, 18, 21.
05:39And if you can't switch on to PTV Sports,
05:43you can watch it on matchday.ph.
05:46On live online, that's the exclusive place where you can see the match live online.
05:50So, on your phones, on your tablets, on your laptops.
05:53Wherever you are in the Philippines,
05:55you can watch the match of the Philippine Men's National Team
05:59in the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
06:01Is there a time limit?
06:03As far as I know, the first match is at 6.30 p.m. on December 12.
06:10On December 18, it's at 9 p.m.
06:13So, that's just right.
06:14When you come home from work, instead of going home,
06:18go to the historic Rizal Memorial Stadium.
06:21The Rizal Memorial Stadium will probably be there for 100 years,
06:24but it's still there.
06:26Go there. It has a capacity of 13,000.
06:29I hope we can join you as one of those 13,000.
06:32Exactly, the cars are there to boost our team.
06:35To make them feel good.
06:37It's not just the 13,000.
06:39In the last AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup,
06:4339 million people from the Philippines watched the Philippine team.
06:49During the pandemic, we were looking for something to do,
06:52but only 39 million people watched.
06:55More power to our country.
06:57I hope we can win an elusive championship here.
07:02It's just a match.
07:05Good luck to our Philippine team.
07:07Thank you very much for joining us this morning.
07:10And of course, for giving details about the upcoming ASEAN Electric Cup 2024,
07:16Sir Dennis Lucindo.
07:17Thank you very much, Sir Dennis.
07:18Thank you very much, Audrion Rod.
