00:00A new Hitachi Energy campus, a beer hall and restaurant, and a major town centre regeneration
00:05project, featuring today's business briefing.
00:07Let's start with this, what caught your eye this morning?
00:16So big news in the West Midlands because Hitachi Energy has revealed plans to invest in a new
00:21operational campus which is set to create hundreds of jobs and also retain lots of jobs.
00:27So as a result of the plans, the business will move out of its current head office in
00:31Stone.
00:32Now it's been headquartered there for 28 years.
00:35And to enable the new development, plans have been submitted to Staffordshire Borough Council
00:40for the former site to be replaced with more than 100 homes, now 40% of those would be
00:46affordable housing.
00:47So some residents have raised objections to the part demolition of some of the buildings
00:53However, Historic England's 2022 report found that it didn't actually meet the criteria
00:58to be a listed heritage asset, even though the factory does have some local interest.
01:04Laura Fleming, she's the Country Managing Director for Hitachi Energy, called the investment
01:09in the new campus a huge commitment to its employees.
01:12Great stuff.
01:13Well, in Sheffield today, we've got the use of a European inspired beer hall and restaurant
01:18which is set to open its doors next year.
01:20So capital, with a K, is from the team behind Two Thirds Beer Co, which is located on Abbey
01:25Hill Road and specialises in craft beers and German themed street food.
01:30The new venue will be spread over two floors and it will be located at the heart of the
01:34city development, a major scheme coming forward in Sheffield, and it's expected to offer the
01:39single largest selection of European beers within the city centre.
01:44Also featuring four tanks filled with unpasteurised Czech lager, which will be delivered to Sheffield
01:50every week.
01:51And the venue is designed to shine a spotlight on famous beer cities such as Brussels, Pilsen,
01:58Prague and Munich.
02:00The construction and fit out work is currently underway and is expected to open early in
02:03the new year.
02:04Sounds fun.
02:05I'm sure as someone who hails from Sheffield, you'll be making a visit there.
02:09Yes, I'll have to pop by and see what it's like when it's open.
02:12Looking forward to it.
02:13Yeah, sounds lovely.
02:14So over in Newcastle now, New Cells Biotech, which is a biotech company, as you can imagine,
02:22has secured £1.2 million in funding from its existing investors.
02:27So the business, it's actually really interesting, it produces 3D models that mimic tissues within
02:33the body and it's used to test drugs that are under development.
02:37So as a result of that, drugs can go to development to market quicker, it's also a little bit
02:42cheaper and it reduces their reliance on animal testing because obviously they can
02:46just use these models instead.
02:48So at the minute, they offer models of the retina, the kidney and the lung and the business
02:53also employs 42 people.
02:56So the new funding will enable it to build its customer base and seek new partnerships.
03:00It's always good to see such innovative companies like that getting support, that's great.
03:05The last thing for us today is plans for a major redevelopment project in Stockport.
03:12So a new neighbourhood known as Stockport 8 would be created to the west of Stockport
03:16town centre on land either side of King Street West and next to the Vairway Viaduct.
03:22So the proposals have been brought forward by the Stockport 8 LLP joint venture, which
03:26is between Stockport Council and the ECF, and they've been submitted following a major
03:30public consultation.
03:32The plans include 1,300 homes and business space as well as community uses and new public
03:38space.
03:40It's been described as one of the largest town centre regeneration projects in the UK.
03:44It forms part of a wider £500 million master plan to transform Stockport town centre west
03:50into one of the UK's most sustainable and liveable town centres.
03:54Cool.
03:55I think Stockport is definitely one of those up and coming places, isn't it?
03:57Yeah, it really seems to have changed quite a lot in the last few years.
04:00Yeah, there's loads of really nice restaurants and bars there, so that sounds like really
04:03good for the town and obviously the wider area.
