00:00A boost in revenues for a Cheshire-based company, a music festival in Sheffield and Insiders
00:06Southeast Dealmaker Awards, all featured in today's Business Briefing.
00:10Good morning, Dan.
00:13Morning, Jen. How are you?
00:17Not too bad. So, I am going to start off with some news in the Northwest this morning. So,
00:24Proteinworks announced that it generated revenue of nearly £500,000 in one day. So,
00:30the business is Cheshire-based and it is known for its protein shakes, meals and snacks.
00:36On Black Friday this year, the company said that it sold a record number of units while
00:41increasing the value of sales. It said that products in every category achieved record-breaking
00:46unit sales and notable increases came from its vegan range. As a whole, the company said
00:52that while it primarily operates in the UK, its expansion of sales in the EU is the biggest
00:57driver of growth, with gross revenue increasing 10% year-on-year and it now accounts for more
01:03than 30% of overall revenue. So, really good news for Proteinworks.
01:07You could say it was a strong performance there.
01:09Yes, definitely.
01:10Speaking of strong performances, it has been revealed that the Tramlines Music Festival
01:14and the Fringe at Tramlines, the music festivals in Sheffield, provided a combined £7.3M boost
01:20to the city's economy. The main Tramlines event in Hillsborough Park took place in July,
01:25with Paolo Nutini, Jamie Tee and Snow Patrol headlining the festival.
01:28Oh wow, are you a fan?
01:29Yes, I'm a big fan of all those actually. That generated close to £5.5M, with over
01:34108,000 people attending the event over the course of the weekend. The Fringe at Tramlines
01:39is estimated to have generated around £2M of economic benefit, with 45,000 people attending.
01:44I've not been to Sheffield but I went to Leeds Fest in the summer and we brought a camping
01:49stove with us to try and save money, not buying food and drink from the stalls all
01:54weekend but it turns out the tank we had didn't fit in the camping stove so we ended up spending
01:58a fortune on food and drink. So it's clear that there's a lot of scope for revenue at
02:02these events, especially when silly people like me bring the wrong thing. But going back
02:07to Sheffield, in total the festival worked with 125 local businesses and over 1,200 local
02:13staff. So it's really good in terms of opportunities as well as boosting the economy and it'll
02:18be back on this year as well, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. But I understand
02:23you've also got some news from the North East. Yes I do, so really positive news in the North
02:28East. The future of Hitachi's Newton A-Cliff site has been secured, safeguarding hundreds
02:33of jobs after landing a deal with First Group. So Hitachi has secured an order to manufacture
02:4070 new railcars for First Group's growing open access business. The Leeds agreement
02:47will deliver 14 new trains and will be financed by Angel Trains. Earlier this year as well,
02:52North East Mayor Kim McGuinness wrote to the Prime Minister outlining her five immediate
02:57priorities for the region. So safeguarding the Hitachi plant and 800 jobs was top of
03:04the list. Sir Keir Starmer visited the County Durham site to celebrate the agreement as
03:11well. It's great to see all those jobs saved. Just to finish off quickly, the shortlist
03:17has been revealed for the South East Dealmakers Awards 2025. It was a great year for dealmaking
03:22in the region and this event so recognises the outstanding professional advisory companies
03:26and their best advisors in that time. The awards will take place on the 27th of February
03:31at G-Life in Guildford where we'll find out who has been crowned Deal of the Year and
03:35who has been crowned Dealmaker of the Year across multiple different categories. That's
03:40all I'll say on it for now. To see the shortlist or even get yourself a ticket, visit
