00:00Datuk Seri Najib Razak told the High Court on Thursday that his purported close connection
00:07with Joe Loh was over-sensationalized when other individuals in the 1MDB scandal were
00:14closer to the fugitive businessman.
00:17The former Prime Minister said he was falsely implicated in the case merely due to Loh's
00:21presence at his residence.
00:23He claimed his interactions with Loh were always guided by what he believed to be in
00:27the best interests of Malaysia.
00:29According to him, Loh had presented himself as highly capable and well-connected, including
00:35having ties with the royal families of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates.
00:41He pointed out that other key individuals—former 1MDB CEO Datuk Shahrol Azrael Ibrahim Halmy,
00:49former 1MDB General Counsel Jasmine Liu, and former AmBank Relationship Manager Joanna
00:54Yu—had visited Loh at his home.
00:57Najib said Shahrol's admission in court was that he made nasi goreng for Loh, while
01:02Yu made soup for Loh when he was unwell.
01:05He added that, for the record, he has never prepared any meals for Loh.
01:10Najib was on the stand to defend himself against four charges of using his position to obtain
01:152.3 billion ringgit of 1MDB funds in bribes and 21 charges of money laundering involving
01:22the same amount.
01:23The hearing continues before Justice Colin Lawrence Sequeira on Friday.
