Philippine National Maritime Council spokesman Alexander Lopez condemns the 'hostile actions' of the Chinese Coast Guard against its vessels, saying that it shows 'a continuing pattern of aggression, coercion and intimidation.' The Philippines said the China Coast Guard fired its water cannon and 'sideswiped' a government vessel during a maritime patrol near the disputed Scarborough Shoal. Beijing says it 'exercised control' over the ship.
