00:00Before the two impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte,

00:04the other official of the government was also facing the same complaint.

00:10GMA Integrated News Research investigated this in the direction of Mackie Pulido.

00:18In the fight between the two separate complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte,

00:23the word impeachment came up again.

00:26This is the process of removing from office of presidents, vice presidents,

00:31members of the Supreme Court, and heads of constitutional commissions,

00:35as well as the ombudsman in charge of the legal system.

00:38The word was not changed in the vocabulary of the Filipinos.

00:42In the investigation of GMA Integrated News Research,

00:45it was only in 1949 that this process of filing an impeachment complaint

00:50against President Elpidio Quirino was tested.

00:52In 1964, President Diosdado Macapagal was also faced with this.

00:56And in 1985, President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

00:59All of those complaints were trashed.

01:05After the EDSA revolution, this process was also used against President Cory Aquino,

01:09but it also did not succeed.

01:13But in 2000,

01:55VP Sara was not the first to be faced with impeachment complaints.

01:59Estrada was also faced with it in 1994.

02:02Arroyo was also faced with it in 2000.

02:04But none of them succeeded.

02:07There was also an impeachment complaint

02:09filed by Vice President Noli de Castro in 2005

02:12and Lenny Rubredo in 2017.

02:14But none of them endorsed the law.

02:17If Estrada was the first president to be impeached,

02:20Chief Justice Renato Corona was the first magistrate to be impeached

02:24and finally convicted in the impeachment trial in the Senate in 2012.

02:28Twenty senators find the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court,

02:34Renato C. Corona,

02:37guilty as charged.

02:39Aside from Estrada and Corona,

02:41among the impeached officials in the country,

02:43were Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez in 2011

02:46and Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista in 2017.
