00:00Agriculture Secretary Francisco Q. Laurel, Jr. is pushing for the return of the half-cup rice,
00:07a concept first introduced by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., who was then senator in 2013 as
00:13a measure for food security, sustainability and public health. Agriculture Secretary Laurel said
00:20the issue of rice wastage, which reached 255,000 metric tons in 2019, according to Phil Rice,
00:28should be addressed. Although the figure decreased from 340,000 metric tons in 2009,
00:34the D.A. chief emphasized the amount of wasted rice is still enough to feed millions of families.
00:40Phil Rice supports this proposal.
