A large crowd turned up in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (Dec 3) evening to pay their last respects to the late tycoon and philanthropist T. Ananda Krishnan, who passed away last week.

00:00A huge crowd turned up at the wake of Ananda Krishnan to pay their last respects to the
00:07late tycoon and philanthropist on Tuesday evening.
00:10Held at Ananda's residence along Jalan Berhala, the wake was open to the public from 5pm to
00:169pm.
00:19Although media personnel had been asked not to cover the event to give Ananda's family
00:24privacy, it did not stop some media outlets from covering the wake outside the residence.
00:29The family had said they requested that the wake be a quiet affair and that no wreaths,
00:35flowers or garlands be sent.
00:38Despite the drizzle, many people thronged the wake earlier and queued up patiently to
00:43wait for their turn to pay their respects.
00:46Ananda's only son, Venerable Ajahn Siripanyo, who is a Buddhist monk, also attended the
00:52wake.
00:54Signs forbidding people from taking photographs or videos inside were put up outside the residence
01:00Ananda, who was born in Brickfields, passed away at the age of 86 in Switzerland last
01:06Thursday.
01:07Ananda was once ranked the third richest person in Malaysia by Forbes, with an estimated worth
01:14of US$5.8 billion.
01:17He founded his flagship investment company, Ursaha Tergast Sendirian Berhad, in 1984,
01:24and his other companies included Maxis and Astro.
