00:00It is celebrated all over the world today as World AIDS Day.
00:04It can remind everyone to be careful against the disease and eliminate the stigma that it brings to the affected.
00:12This is what Isaiah Meropentes wrote.
00:17Lorenz has been diagnosed with HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus for 11 years.
00:22In 2013, he found out that he was infected with the said virus.
00:27During the time that I was diagnosed with HIV, I faced stigma, I faced discrimination.
00:33It's because the people surrounding us are uneducated about HIV and AIDS.
00:40He admitted that his situation is not easy.
00:43One of the most painful experiences is the isolation of his companions in the company he was working for.
00:51At one point, he separated his belongings from others.
00:54But there was nothing that could hurt him.
00:56Even though his family was against him, they were also against him.
01:02I experienced discrimination inside the household.
01:05So what I just pushed through is to keep educating my family members about HIV so that we could break that kind of stigma.
01:13But as time went by, the information about HIV gradually became clearer.
01:20Now, because of his acceptance and understanding of some medical methods,
01:25he is continuously recovering from his severe calvary.
01:29Here in the Philippines, according to the Department of Health,
01:3250 people are diagnosed with HIV every day.
01:36Most of them are young people, 15 to 24 years old.
01:4194% of them are men and 6% are women.
01:46But in the second quarter of this year, the number of HIV cases in the country decreased.
01:51But...
01:52Our sexually transmitted diseases are increasing.
01:57Syphilis, gonorrhea, not just HIV.
02:01So again, risky behavior.
02:03So you can't just prepare.
02:06Because if you just prepare, you'll get syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia.
02:12The DOH's goal is to eliminate stigma or misperception of HIV-positive people.
02:18Stigma is usually due to lack of knowledge.
02:22And that's where your help is needed.
02:24HIV is not a new disease.
02:26It was discovered a long time ago, in 1983.
02:29Antiretrovirals are already available.
02:32The medicines are free, available in different treatment hubs in the country.
02:37Today is the first day of December, World AIDS Day.
02:41Here in the Philippines, World AIDS Day Walk was held this morning.
02:46As for different cities and government agencies, they were not affected by the rain.
02:51And they walked on several streets in Ortigas, Pasig City.
02:55HIV is not a disease.
02:57In the proper knowledge, a person with a warm feeling can live normally.
03:03Away from any discrimination and judgment.
03:07Isaiah Mirafuentes for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
03:13The U.S. Agency for International Development and the private sector in the Philippines
03:19agreed to assist in the campaign to eliminate the public related to HIV-AIDS
03:26and to prevent the increase of the number of cases.
03:29That is the message of Bien Manalo.
03:35The United States Agency for International Development or USAID and the
03:41Ayala Healthcare Holdings Incorporated.
03:44It aims to increase HIV awareness, screening, and treatment access in the Philippines.
03:50It will also support community engagement and technical assistance
03:55to the healthway medical networks in the Philippines.
03:58It will also increase the skills of healthcare providers.
04:02Telehealth access will be expanded through Consulta MD.
04:07And continuous coordination between partners and stakeholders
04:11in the delivery of free HIV self-testing kits.
04:15The Philippines is one of the countries in the Asia-Pacific region
04:19that has the fastest rate of HIV cases.
04:23Because of this, DOH intensified information dissemination
04:28and enhanced treatment protocols against the deadly disease.
04:32HIV testing will also be expanded throughout the country.
04:36That is why DOH is urging to follow some guidelines to prevent HIV-AIDS.
04:42Bien Manalo for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
