00:00Now that the weather is getting colder, it's possible that there will be more influenza-like illness.
00:09That's why the Department of Health is reminding us again to avoid these.
00:14J.P. Soriano has the news.
00:19The security guard, Jeffrey, just came from Ubot Sipo after the heavy rain.
00:26He was able to hold his family at home.
00:29It's very hard because you can't move.
00:34You have to earn every day.
00:38Jeffrey is one of the people in the Department of Health who has influenza-like illness or ILI
00:44that is expected to get worse after the Northeast Monsoon or AMIHAN in the Philippines.
00:51This is the diagnosis of symptoms more likely to be like a flu,
00:55like cough and cough, fever, shortness of breath or sore throat, and body aches.
01:02But it can also be an indication of other diseases like COVID-19 that still exists until now, according to the DOH.
01:09But according to Health Secretary Ted Herbosa,
01:12it's not just the cold weather and the rain that causes illness.
01:18It's actually because you're sleeping in a room with people, one person coughing,
01:23you're infected with acute respiratory infection.
01:26According to the DOH, in September, more than 100,000 cases of influenza-like illness or ILI
01:34were reported from January to August 2024,
01:37because ILI is the most dangerous among the elderly.
01:42They are the ones who are monitored by the DOH.
01:45The elderly, if they are infected with respiratory illness,
01:48it will become pneumonia, they will be hospitalized, and they can even die.
01:52So we take care of the high-risk people.
01:54The same goes for very small children.
01:56The DOH reminds the public to remember the things we learned to take care of during the COVID-19 pandemic
02:03to avoid infectious diseases like ILI.
02:07If you have a respiratory illness, wear a face mask so you won't get infected.
02:12Also, wash your hands and use a hand sanitizer.
