00:00Now, let's talk about the journey of our guests this morning.
00:04It's none other than the Philippine pilot, Chesca Gonzalez.
00:09Good morning and welcome to Rise of the Philippines.
00:11Good morning.
00:12Actually, this is my friend, Chesca.
00:15Oh, Chesca.
00:16And Chesca has achieved so many things.
00:19It's like no one can stop her.
00:21She's so hardworking.
00:22Yes.
00:22Inspiration to many.
00:24It's true.
00:24From a nurse, you also did an F.A.
00:27Yes.
00:28And then, she also did business.
00:30Now, you became a pilot.
00:31That's where you got to know each other.
00:32And you're also a mother.
00:34You have two children.
00:36How did you manage to have two children at the same time?
00:37How many hands do you have?
00:38Just two.
00:39Twenty.
00:40Twenty.
00:41Alright.
00:42So, let's get to know more about you, Chesca.
00:44I'm also interested in becoming a pilot
00:47because many people want to dream of becoming a pilot.
00:51How did you decide to enter this profession?
00:55Maybe, it's funny because it's my dream.
00:57But, I really wanted to become an astronaut when I was a kid.
01:00Oh.
01:01That's your dream.
01:02It's your dream.
01:03Others want to become a doctor or an engineer.
01:05I wanted to become an astronaut when I was a kid.
01:07Okay.
01:08That's where it started.
01:09That's where it started.
01:10It's okay.
01:11Because it's already close.
01:12It's already close.
01:13Yes.
01:14It's already close.
01:15Well, you started as a nurse.
01:17You became a pilot, business owner
01:20in a company in Dubai and the Philippines.
01:23So, what did you learn from each trial
01:26and journey that you embarked on?
01:28Every profession that I entered,
01:31I learned different things.
01:33But, maybe starting with the nurse,
01:35I think it's the compassion.
01:37It's the empathy of, you know,
01:40thinking of other people first.
01:42And, when it comes to becoming a pilot,
01:45it's the responsibility.
01:47Because you really hold the lives of other people.
01:50Aside from the responsibility,
01:52it's also the discipline.
01:54The discipline is really different.
01:56Because of your sleep,
01:58what you need.
02:00Your sleep should be complete.
02:02Your mind should always be sharp and everything.
02:04So, when it comes to piloting,
02:06it's the dedication as well.
02:08Then, the hard work, of course.
02:10And, when it comes to being a business owner,
02:13it's really different when it comes to being a pilot
02:15and when it comes to being a nurse.
02:17Because what I learned here,
02:20you can try so many things.
02:22You can face so many things.
02:24You might think that
02:26we only learned about emergencies.
02:28But, this is the real life of an emergency
02:30in terms of finances,
02:32in terms of operations, management.
02:34You're really all-in-one.
02:36So, I really learned a lot.
02:38How do you transition yourself there
02:40from being a pilot to a business owner?
02:42It's really based on experience.
02:45It's like you went to war.
02:47You know the basics,
02:49but when you're there, it's really different.
02:51That's why my transition is different.
02:53My transition is not a college degree,
02:55but it's really more of the experience.
02:59Why do you want to try
03:01everything?
03:03That's what I noticed.
03:05Because some would focus on being a nurse.
03:07Some would focus on being a pilot.
03:09You tried everything.
03:11Why is that your direction?
03:13Both personal and professional growth
03:15to consider.
03:18Aside from the titles,
03:20because some do things
03:22for the titles.
03:24You're a captain, you're a doctor.
03:26I'm not.
03:28It's really more of trying out things.
03:30Because when you're old,
03:32I don't want to regret.
03:34I'll tell myself,
03:36I should have tried this when I was young.
03:38I don't think there's a perfect time to start,
03:40but now.
03:42So, I'm just trying.
03:44I'm looking at where I excel.
03:46I really love the professions that I've tried.
03:48But, I think
03:50being a pilot is one of the things
03:52that I really love.
03:54I'll be back soon.
03:56But at the moment,
03:58it's really more of
04:00trying out things in other countries
04:02and in the Philippines.
04:04Where are you really good at?
04:06You will maximize your potential.
04:08You will inspire more people in other industries.
04:10So you don't have a what if.
04:12Yes, you should.
04:14Just think of Cheska.
04:16She's a man.
04:18You can do it.
04:20But I wonder,
04:22I mean,
04:24being a pilot,
04:26it's a work that
04:28the stigma is,
04:30most of the men who work here,
04:32how do you dominate
04:34or how did you enter this industry?
04:36Considering that.
04:38It's good that
04:40I was raised
04:43with a strong heart.
04:45It's also important that you have that support.
04:47That when you grow up,
04:49you can do it even if you're a woman.
04:51Because sometimes,
04:53you're limited by people around you
04:55because you're a woman.
04:57But at the end of the day,
04:59when you think about it,
05:01there's no real profession for men.
05:03Because all professions
05:05can be for women.
05:07Also,
05:09being a pilot,
05:11there are only a few female pilots.
05:13I'm fond of industries like
05:15blockchain.
05:17In one of my businesses,
05:19there are only a few female pilots.
05:21Here in the Air Force,
05:23there are only a few female pilots.
05:25So for me,
05:27I think I'm an example for other people
05:29that they can do it even in any industry
05:31that they feel like it's only for men.
05:33And now, there are more female pilots.
05:35It's really fun.
05:37Okay, so now,
05:39you're in Dubai and also here in the Philippines.
05:41How's the experience of
05:43working in Dubai?
05:45It's a different experience.
05:47It's a different world.
05:49It's like I'm in a
05:51playground
05:53but it's a difficult maze.
05:55Because you don't know.
05:57You meet the right people.
05:59You meet the amazing people in other countries.
06:01And you bring them to the Philippines.
06:03Knowing that you want to bring businesses to the Philippines.
06:05It's like you're building
06:07the future of the Philippines in other countries.
06:09So I'm happy about that.
06:11Okay, while you're a businessman
06:13and a pilot, how do you manage
06:15to give your children time?
06:17You're a mother of two.
06:19You have a college, right?
06:21Life is unfair.
06:23It's annoying.
06:25But you give birth publicly.
06:27At 16?
06:29At 16, I gave birth.
06:31I'm a teenage mom.
06:33For me,
06:35I always tell them
06:37being a teenage mom is not a hurdle.
06:39You have to fulfill all your dreams.
06:41For me, it's quality time.
06:43Because
06:45you can be with your child everyday
06:47but you don't spend quality time with them.
06:49For me, it doesn't matter
06:51even if you're physically there.
06:53Even if I'm not physically there everyday,
06:55but when I'm there,
06:57I make them feel that I love them.
06:59And they feel loved and blessed
07:01at the end of the day.
07:03Where does she get the drive
07:05and motivation to fight?
07:07It's painful.
07:09Maybe it's just the last chance.
07:11Although we want more.
07:13Do you have a message
07:15to women who have dreams
07:17in life and want to try
07:19but are hesitant?
07:21What's your message of inspiration?
07:23Don't be afraid.
07:25Don't be afraid of anything you do.
07:27Because
07:29if you remember,
07:31don't go back and say,
07:33I wish I did this.
07:35There's no better time than now.
07:39If you don't try,
07:41you won't know.
07:43Don't be afraid of failure.
07:45Failure is part of your success.
07:47If you don't fail,
07:49it means you didn't try many times.
07:51You love your job,
07:53and when you're loving,
07:55you also hate, you also fail.
07:57Chesca is so inspiring.
07:59I want to try things
08:01that I haven't tried yet.
08:03You can do a morning show here,
08:05and you can pilot a plane.
08:07You can land by 4pm.
08:11Thank you, Chesca.
08:13We hope to have you here again.
08:15Thank you, Chesca Gonzalez.
08:17Your journey reminds us that
08:19with your passion, resilience, and hard work,
08:21anything is possible.
