00:00Good afternoon sir, my name is Aditya Balaji and I have a question that we decide something
00:17but the next moment or after some time we deny it by ourselves, like for example I decide
00:25the previous night that I have to get up early in the morning but when the alarm is ringing
00:29I switch it off and sleep it, so is it a dual personality or what is this?
00:36Is it the first time this happened with you?
00:39No sir, it's constantly happening, sometimes I get up but sometimes I switch it off and
00:43sleep.
00:44Even when you were setting the alarm last night, you knew that the odds were against
00:50you because it has happened again and again, the probability of you honestly getting up
00:58when the alarm rings is let's say 0.1 or 0.2, right, 10 to 20%, mostly it is likely
01:09that the alarm will ring and you will shut it down, let me sleep.
01:16You know that in advance, you know that when you are awake, you know that when you have
01:24yet not fallen asleep, right, let's say at 10 pm in the night, you are setting an alarm
01:30for 5 am, now when the alarm would ring at 5 am, you would be drowsy, you would be half
01:39asleep, very reluctant to get up.
01:43That would be the condition of your consciousness at 5 am, right, and you know that in advance,
01:48you know how your insides are, you know your determination is weak but at 10 pm when you
01:56are setting the alarm, you are still wide awake, are you not?
02:01You are awake and you know that most probably this system is not going to work, I will set
02:09the alarm but I will still not get up.
02:12What to do then?
02:13Whatever is to be done is to be done at 10 pm, not at 5 am, at 5 am you are in no position
02:20to do anything, the only moment when some choice can be exercised is at 10 pm because
02:29you are still not unconscious, at 5 you are almost 100% unconscious, what will you do
02:36then?
02:37You are gone, finished, the opportunity is lost, what to do at 10 pm?
02:42Set 5 alarms, empower somebody to hit you with a sandal or something, do the best that
02:56you can.
02:58If you know your tendencies, why do you still blindly trust yourself and fall asleep, why?
03:08And if you find that come what may, all arrangements are going to fail, you will still not get
03:15up, then don't sleep at all, why sleep?
03:19If getting up at 5 am is seriously important, if you will miss the flight if you don't get
03:26up at 5 am, don't sleep at all.
03:30But you won't sleep only when you have something worth loving so much that it does not allow
03:38you to sleep.
03:42The task at 5 am must be absolutely lovable, it must be so lovable that you do not fall
03:50asleep at all, otherwise a lukewarm kind of life is what we all get, we are divided
04:03within one part says oh no there is some responsibility, so please get up at 5 am, then there are five
04:10other parts within that know the uselessness of that responsibility and that are habituated
04:19to breaking their own woes that have gone back on their promises 200 times in the past,
04:30so they are habituated.
04:33How does it matter?
04:35Make a promise, break it, whether the promise is to others or to yourself, all these parts
04:41exist within the mind.
04:44The only thing that can overcome the dissipative force of all these parts is the power of love.
04:54And love is real only when you have something worthy enough to love, otherwise even love
05:01will fail, as it usually does, getting it?
05:09So ask yourself, what is it I want to get up at 5 am for?
05:16Is the cause genuine enough?
05:18Is the matter important enough?
05:21And if the answer is a resounding and honest yes, yes, there indeed is definitely something
05:30very important I must get up at 5 am for, then you will find that you indeed do get
05:36up even without an alarm.
05:41The mind knows.
05:42Vedanta tells you that even when you are asleep, still the center of you is awake.
05:51It knows everything.
05:53The proof is even when you are asleep, when somebody calls you by your name, you get up.
05:58Don't you?
05:59You are asleep and somebody calls you by your name, you will get up.
06:05It won't happen if somebody else's name is called out.
06:09What's your name?
06:10Aditi.
06:11Aditi.
06:12And somebody says Rajesh, Rajesh and you are sleeping.
06:14And with the same loudness the fellow is saying Rajesh, you are unlikely to get up.
06:20But if he says Aditi, Aditi, Aditi three times, you will start getting up.
06:28So some part of you knows even when you are asleep, when the matter at hand is really
06:38important and you acknowledge its importance, you probably don't even need an alarm.
06:46You will find that you will get up 10 minutes before 5 on your own, even without an alarm.
06:52So before you go to sleep at 10 pm, sit down for 10 minutes and ask yourself, what will
06:58I do at 5 am?
07:00Is it important?
07:02Do I like it?
07:03Will I enjoy doing it?
07:05And if the answers are clear, yes, you will find the thing is easy for you.
07:12Otherwise, as we said, don't sleep.
07:17Just don't sleep.
07:18Yes.
07:19Thank you, sir.
