Hydra Focus On Lakes :

00:00Once upon a time, whenever we heard the name of Hydra, trains would run in the hearts of the invaders.
00:05The invaders would not leave it even for a week.
00:08Such Hydra has now completely changed the pattern.
00:11The Hydra, which has been extended for a week, has been focused on how to restore all the rivers.
00:18The survey of India based on village maps, along with the national remote sensing data,
00:22was able to identify the rivers based on the number of rivers in the city.
00:29The Hydra Commissioner Ranganath, along with the government officials,
00:33has set up a joint committee on the restoration of the rivers and lakes,
00:36and is accepting suggestions and recommendations.
00:38As the land in Hyderabad has increased due to the increased urbanization,
00:42the government has started to take over the lands and the rivers.
00:4761% of the Hyderabad rivers have now dried up, and the entire area has become a concrete jungle.
00:5339% of the rivers have to be protected,
00:58and if they are not restored by now, there is a risk of not being able to see the rivers in the next 10 years.
01:04The Hydra has increased access to the general public and the FDL buffer zone.
01:10Ranganath said that while buying the land, he was aware of the details,
01:13and was being careful not to fall into the hands of regular businessmen.
01:23Everybody in Hyderabad city is aware of what is an FDL and what is a buffer,
01:26and selling or buying of the properties along the water bodies has come down drastically.
01:32This had a deterrent effect on encroaching of the lands.
01:37To some extent, I feel that we were successful in preventing the further encroachments onto the land.
01:43The next part is, yes, whatever encroachments have happened has happened.
01:47Now let us secure this land which is there,
01:49and start trying to rejuvenate this particular portion that is left behind.
01:53In fact, we have just started the proper enumeration of all the lakes also,
01:57water bodies in Hyderabad.
01:59We are taking data from various sources,
02:01like we are going to the village maps, cadastral maps,
02:04and the Survey of India topo sheets,
02:07the remote sensing from the NRSE water spread,
02:10the number of water bodies in the year 2000,
02:15we are trying to procure that data too,
02:17with one meter resolution data.
02:19Liberally commenting about the lake system in Hyderabad also.
