00:00For generations, the Cabela family has shared a passion for the outdoors, a love of hunting
00:18and a deep respect for wildlife.
00:21Growing up with an outdoor company inspired me as a young boy, spent a lot of time in
00:26nature and it was through this exploration really that I learned about wildlife conservation
00:32and that has influenced the mission that is so important to me today.
00:36There are few things that come close to the pursuit of stone sheep in their rugged natural
00:40habitat, but this practice also generates an immense amount of funding for their conservation.
00:56Revenue generated from hunting permits and licenses for stone sheep are directly funding
01:00conservation programs aimed at preserving their habitats and populations.
01:09Indigenous communities hunt black bears for social, ceremonial and sustenance purposes,
01:14exercising their ancestral rights.
01:17The cultural significance of the bear to our people is the use of it.
01:22It's what you call respect, taking care of the environment, recognizing that everything
01:29is one and everything is connected.
01:33The venison trade in Britain is an important source of income for rural communities and
01:37a healthy source of protein.
01:41While there is a strong anti-hunting sentiment within the UK, there is a role that hunting
01:45can play within the conservation management of ecosystems.
01:51I believe when hunters work with science-based individuals or organizations that much can
01:55be accomplished and it is the science that has the greatest impact and helps us to better
01:59inform conservation decisions.
02:02How many guaymol do you estimate there still are in the wild?
02:06No more than 2,000, more likely probably 1,500.
02:10That's in both Chile and Argentina combined.
02:14While most of us live in a world increasingly in search of ethical, sustainable and healthy
02:18food sources, the Inuit have long been nourishing their people with just that, right here in
02:24their Arctic backyard.
02:35Conservation is not just about the protection of wildlife and environments, it's about living
02:39with nature, taking only sustainably from the land and importantly, contributing economically
02:45back for the long-term good of wildlife.
