00:00that this plague of domestic violence homicides relentlessly courses through
00:05our community in the Northern Territory is our horror and our national shame. The
00:12number of domestic violent deaths in the Northern Territory is truly shocking. My
00:18office is aware of at least 87 domestic violence deaths of women, most of them
00:24Aboriginal women, over the last 24 years. Appallingly, eight Aboriginal women have
00:31died since June this year and a sister girl has also died and all of these nine
00:38deaths are allegedly from domestic violence. The grief and trauma across our
00:44communities flowing from this traumatic loss of life is inexhaustible. To the
00:50children, parents, siblings, extended families and communities who have lost a
00:56member to domestic violence, I am sorry.
