00:00See, everybody says this is Pankaj Kapoor ka beta and all that, but you know, character actors don't have any power.
00:05Only stars and superstars and big film directors and producers have power.
00:09If you start struggling in a BMW and then after a star you buy another BMW, then what's the fun of it?
00:14Why don't outsiders get opportunities the way that they should?
00:17There's a lot of people who are from within the fraternity and very few from the outside.
00:21Have you been a dancer behind A-listers, stars and stuff?
00:25Yeah, of course. I was last in line also.
00:28See, when you start with Shyamak, you have to be in the last line.
00:31So forget being behind a star, you're also behind your contemporaries.
00:36You have to earn your right to be in the first row.
00:38You have to earn your right to be more central as opposed to in the corner.
00:41So it's a lot of work and I love that.
00:44I love the fact that every step forward required so much effort and it meant so much.
00:52And so the gratification that you felt when you earned it was so solid.
00:56It has to be difficult to get something. Otherwise, what's the point of it?
00:59If you start struggling in a BMW and then after a star you buy another BMW, then what's the fun of it?
01:04You should have travelled in trains.
01:06You should have wondered how you're going to get your photo shoot.
01:09Where will you get the money from?
01:10How will I wear clothes for meetings?
01:13How will you do all those things?
01:14That's real, right?
01:16And yeah, of course. It's the actual adventure.
01:18That's what goes in the books.
01:20So at this point, did people in that row...
01:25There are four rows of dancers and at that time we're not going to take your full name.
01:30It's like Shahid is standing in the back.
01:32Did you know that it was Pankaj Kapoor's son who was standing in the back?
01:36See, everybody says it's Pankaj Kapoor's son and all that.
01:39But you know, character actors don't have any power.
01:43Only stars and superstars and big film directors and producers have power.
01:47So it's not a big deal.
01:49Secondly, I actually stayed with my mom.
01:52So I never told anybody because my parents were separated
01:56and there was this whole pride thing that I don't want to say anything to anybody.
01:59So I never told anybody.
02:01Actually, I told my dad that I've signed the film after I signed it.
02:04He didn't even know.
02:05From the time you started to now, what is the biggest difference you see?
02:11Should I say it?
02:12Yeah, say it.
02:13Why don't outsiders get opportunities the way that they should?
02:16There's a lot of people who are from within the fraternity and very few from the outside.
02:21I don't know if that was the case 20 years back, but...
02:23No, we came from outside.
02:25I know, I also came from outside, actually.
02:27Because I came from Delhi to Bombay and I was with my mom and then I started...
02:30I mean, I didn't have any channel.
02:32Talent is not being given an opportunity as much as it should.
02:35And I pride myself in the fact that I am here because of the work that I did
02:39and because of the actor that I learned to become.
02:42And whatever it is that I gave to the craft, I pride myself in that.
02:48Whether I've had a great career, average career, from everybody's point of view...
02:52Whatever, everybody has a different point of view.
02:54But no, what I'm saying is, no, seriously, everybody will have a different point of view.
02:59But whatever it is, it is hard-earned money.
03:02You know, from work, not from fame.
03:05It's all because of fame.
03:07Why not work?
03:09Our biggest superstars were because of work.
03:12We're actually killing our own fraternity.
03:14Maybe that's why there is a lack of good content.
03:17Because you've got to put your money on the horse that can actually run.
03:20Not just the one that's, you know, got the shiniest coat.
