00:00One of my favorite stories is there was this man who grew up in India named Srinivasa Ramanujan.
00:10And he grew up, he was poor.
00:30And he grew up, he was poor.
00:45And he grew up, he was poor.
01:05And he grew up, he was poor.
01:31One of my favorite stories is there was this man who grew up in India named Srinivasa Ramanujan.
01:41And he grew up, he was poor.
01:44He didn't have access to the Internet.
01:46There wasn't the Internet at the time.
01:48He didn't have any formal education.
01:51But somehow he managed to get a book.
01:54He got a math textbook.
01:55And it didn't cover all math.
01:57It just covered a part.
01:59But that textbook was enough for him to basically figure out all of modern mathematics that existed at that time and push the field forward.
02:09And so I kind of think about this.
02:12And what would have happened if he'd had access to the Internet?
02:16How much better, if we'd invest in that kind of infrastructure and connectivity, how much better off would the world be?
02:23And then you kind of think today, well, more than half of people in the world don't have access to the Internet.
02:27And that's why at Facebook we're working on projects like Internet.org to try to make it so that every single person has access to the Internet.
02:34I mean, how many more Ramanujans are out there who could deliver really amazing things for the whole world if they had access to that kind of infrastructure and if we as a society invested in that?
02:45So this is something that I feel really strongly about and will hopefully get a chance to focus a bit more on.
